Just curious how many of you moving to adelaide are 'sans kiddies'? The hubs and I are childfree and don't plan to have any. Always nice to meet a few others like that.

Same here. Just the two of us. I am only just responsible enough to start taking care of myself (turned 40 in July)!!!
We were wondering the same, as last time we went to a meet up, most people seemed to be moving "for the kids". Did feel a bit selfish that we are doing it purely for us. :err:

They have all grown up and left home, so now it's just the two of us.
Should we tell them our new address, or wait to see if they can find us?

Have been over 6 weeks left all the children in the UK, in our 40's. We could do with a child free meet, maybe in a drinking establishment :) Being my first post I will have to let someone else take the lead on a time and a venue.

I'll be happy to organise a meet up when we arrive, which should be in a few weeks, so possibly early April? Will throw out some dates as soon as we have our tkts home. Perhaps a pub inthe city centre...we could be predictable and go to the English pub (I want to say elephant and castle but that may be wrong) or Belgian Beer Cafe, or anywhere else people would like to suggest.

Hi,
Can you hang on until the start of May, cos it would be great to be able to hook up with other people who don't have small people in their lives. A beer or two in our new home town sounds like a great way to get to know you all in person...
Hope to see you all there, but you'll have to give us directions!! ;)

To be honest, I'm happy to organise something in April and May. I'm sure we'll have more childfree people coming all the time, so why not have a regular meet up:)

So, 1st things 1st, how about venue...is everyone ok with the Irish pub Rob mentioned?
Wish I could be there. Myself and OH are childfree and intend to stay that way ;)
We're not emigrating until Jan 09 tho, so if you could make this a regular thing we will see you next year!

Was extraordinarily relieved to see this thread, having watched approximately one million hours of Wanted Down Under and realising 96% of those featured had little brats, er, I mean, adorable possums, dripping off em.
Will be in the magical city of Adelaide from 9 April so if you lovely folks have a meetup sometime between then and 20 April, count us in.
Can't wait!

I'm also very very relieved to know there are so many childfree people in Adelaide. I thought you might be few and far in between! Will aim for early-mid April for this gathering:)
We are also in Adelaide validating our visas until the 6th April, won't hold our breath, but just in case the meet is this early in the month!

When I know what date we will get back to Adelaide I'll throw out 2 or 3 dates over two weekends, so hopefully we can accomodate (almost) everyone.
In the meantime please vote here for time of day:

I'm not a newbie but we are childfree as well. We live in Seaford though so going out socialising in the City is out for us as one of us can't have a drink.
I work full-time in the City though so if anyone else works in the City, we could meet for lunch or after work for dinner.

Hiya Moosh,
I'm happy to meet up for lunch or dinner one day when we are back. Even if the overall vote is for a weekend for the 1st meet up, we can always have the next meet up on a weeknight, as it seems there are enough people interested in that option to make it worthwhile.

Hi there - we are also child free, far too young for that ;-) what I would like to ask is that coming from London and being in our later twenty's will Adelaide be enough for us? I've heard mixed things about its more like a large town than a City, we couldn't get a PR visa but can get state sponsorship with Adelaide so its our way in if you like....any views would be welcome!!

I think that's an entirely new thread Emma;) It all depends on what you are looking for. No, in my opinion, Adelaide is not a city and is more like a large town, and I wouldn't have wanted to live there in my early-mid 20s. Heck, I'm settling for it now, to be honest, but it's where my husband is from, so I'll trade off...at least it has a low cost of living and you can use your xtra funds, if you manage well, to do a lot of travelling. My husband likes to go clubbing, and we lived in London for a while. He got into DJing too while there and he's not bored with Adelaide even after that, so it takes all kinds:)
As far as those of you not arriving until later in the year, as far as I'm concerned, we can have a gathering a month and things in between if there are enough of us. I'm keen to meet as many childfree peeps as there are out there, so I'm happy to organise things!

Hi Suzer,
Sorry we won't be over till later in the year, but it is a good idea, we did the same in Feb this year when we were there. We had a great time, if I remember correctly there were 16 of us sat chatting and drinking. Unfortunately the time clock beat me around midnight and had to hit the sack at that point.
Everybody had a good night so I'm sure you will have a great time on your meet up too.
Good luck with it.

I come from Luton originally. I would put Adelaide on a similar size scale to that. Adelaide is small for a City and it is surprising the village mentality of people.
I also used to DJ in Luton and on radio so we have a bit in common. Although my music taste is varied from Dance to Salsa. Whereas my hubby hates nightclubs and hasn't moved on from Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. lol.

Same here, leaving them all in the UK so will definately be up for a regular meet up once we arrive for good at the beginning of October. Over for a vlalidation visit last week in May so if there is anything happening we would be very interested.
Sounds like there are a lot of free and fancy couples over there. Would be great to make some friends.

We are hoping to go in a few months time. I see you will be there in October. Where about do you live in UK?
Have you been toAdelaide before?
