Hi everyone

hopefully we're off out to Adelaide in Sept 07 and are frantically searching on the net about everything. We have heard about the company 'Meet and Greet' which sounds ideal as it's cheap but we've also heard that the accommadation is located within council areas :?: We're not snobs but would'nt want to live in a council estate around our area :( . We know it's not going to be the same, but wondered if anyone has any advice on the service? Good or bad.

Help

Hi Rob and Mags

We have applied for meet and greet and OAA. Some of the houses don't look that great (but have also seen some that look very nice) but we are going with an open mind - it is after all only temporary accomodation to use as a base for the first few weeks so we are not really that bothered on what the area/house will be like.

Don't forget most of the time you will be out looking at areas/rentals/sorting paperwork etc so won't be in it much.

If it is that bad we will just have to get off our backsides and find a rental faster  It is a good, cheap way to start and at least it gives us an address for a few weeks if we are lucky enough to get it

Hi Rob and Mags

OAA is the On Arrival Accomodation which is the cheap housing for up to 12 weeks provided by the SA government for migrants to apply for. Meet and Greet is the service where volunteers meet you and help you out for the first day or so finding your accomodation, tax numbers etc.

We applied for OAA back in November as we had worked out which flight we hoped to be on and will find out in a couple of weeks if we get a place or not so will keep you posted!

Thanks again Lisa

yes, please keep us informed. Relying heavily on those planning on going out before us for info. We've only just had our meds and police checks so are a bit reluctant in doing anything drastic yet incase something goes wrong :?

Here you go, info on OAA and meet and greet -

OAA - http://www.immigration.sa.gov.au/site/services_onarrival.php

Meet and Greet - http://www.immigration.sa.gov.au/site/services_meetgreet.php

Both need to be applied for at least 6 weeks before your arrival

Hi Everyone

Although OAA is basic, like Lisa has said its somewhere to go to upon arrival & its very cheap, I have read others have paid as little as $150 a week including bills 8)

I am apprehensive about the location to but I think you have to at least apply & hope for the best, if its that bad you just check into a motel sooner or even secure a rental quickly - either way its a cheap option worth considering

Good luck
