As Bugpuss says if you fall short on your points total you can bump it up a bit with the IELTS. Its by no means compulsary unless you come from a non english speaking country.

Thanks for your messages;).
Initially I thought that I didn't need to take the exam, them read something else and thought "Oh No!!!" i've missed something really important here.
Feel better now....
I think the anxiety of it all makes me a little bit jittery!!!!!

I am at TAFE, Port Adelaide and have come over on a student visa from the UK. You don't need the IELTS...it is only for extra points when applying for permanent residency.
Hope that helps x

Hi there.....
It is so nice to hear from someone who is actually studying over there.
What are you studying???? How long have you been there and do you enjoy it??
I have just sent off my application to study a Diploma in Hairdressing, so fingers crossed.

Hi Fluff.....
I don't have any help with the Student Visa, but I have read loads and loads on the immigration Website and the only thing that is a bit daunting about it is the timing of everything. I have a 7 year old son and need to get him enroled in a school over there before i apply for my Visa (although I have got a friend over there who said she would look round any that took my fancy over the internet).
Did you have to provide proof about what money you had, or do you just have to sign a declaration? We are going to sell our house and use the equity, bu again its all about the timing.....
So many questions......Does everyone seem very friendly???

Hi Poms
Adelaide is an extremely friendly. Too bloody cheerful at times!!!
Did not need to prove any money. All quite easy really. What else would you like to know?

So if you don't take the test but do have a British qualification,15 points will automatically be awarded , without doing anything
but if you do take the test and pass its 25 points
Do they just automatically award the points during your visa application in response to your TRA plus your IELTS cert if you do it
is this right
