Hi everyone,

We have finally got round to thinking about shipping our things out to Oz (not that we have our visa yet but we are hopeful as ever we will get it soon!). We were wondering if anyone could recommend any shipping companies that they used. We had a guy round from White and Company today to give us an initial quote which was just under £1500 for 225cuft / 6.4cubic metres. We will probably get some other quotes from other shipping companies to compare prices. We didn't want to spend any more than £1500 on shipping costs and if anything were hoping it would be quite a bit less than this (like up to £1200 max.).

Hi,

We used White & Co and received an excellent service, get a few around and play them off with each other, you do not have use the removal companies for insurance (although this is something else they can be flexible with), this company is quite competitive on insurance http://www.lettonpercival.co.uk/,

We used a local international company from the Midlands.......Doree Bonner, we had a shared container & had no problems with shipping & storage at this end.

Good luck

hi - we've just had 4 diff companies round for quotes and decided that we're gonna go with Robinsons - was really impressed with them and they're quite a bit cheaper than the other quotes we got. Two sets of people we know also used them when they emigrated and were impressed too! Jacinta

We used Robinson's too, are you having your own container or are your sharing one?.

Well we are taking very little stuff - no furniture - just personal goods - our recent quote estimated 6.2 square metres at £1498. We have since decided to not take excess clothes or bedding so that size will be less - how does this sound?

We are using Robinsons also. They were not the cheapest but we liked their style. We are having a full container (wife's clothes) but we had PSS & John Masons in for quotes as well. Masons were the same as Robinsons, PSS were a few hundre pounds cheaper. We went back to Robinsons and 'bargained' with them and they revised their quote, which we accepted. Moral of the tale, shope around and don't be afraid of contacting them again and asking if that's the best price they can do for you, it's amazing how much you might save! Hope that helps.

That's interesting swampo cos pss and john masons quoted us quite a few hundred quid dearer than Robinsons:confused:but Anglo Pacific were the most expensive by far for a 20 ft container which we'll need. We liked Robinson's style too - seem to want to bend over backwards to do what you want [ or is that just a slick sales pitch?!] Well - they convinced us enough... so time will tell! Jacinta

Hi Sarah and John,

I work for John Masons as a packer and i know our company can deliver you some boxes in advance,so you can pack it yourselves, hopefully saving you some of the costs. Then we can arrange to collect it all and load it into a shared container at the warehouse(still takes roughly 3 months to be delivered.)I'm not really 100% on the costs we charge(just humble packer) but it could be worth thinking about in hope of saving some cash.Hope some of this helps(and makes sense!)

Ken
(Hopefully in oz October time)

We used PSS and so far really pleased. We had quotes from a couple but went with PSS as they made us feel comfortable with everything and when the guy first came round felt he was very up front
