Get up early and get to the market next to Torrens Island. Buy your fruit n veg and fresh fish( bring an esky to put it in).
Go back to the wharf and stroll through the Fisherman's wharf markets for old books, bric-a-brac,. Sit on the balcony upstairs, have a bite to eat or a drink and wonder how they got that big boat where it is. Pay a small amount and walk up to the top of the red light house.
Visit the maritime museum at 126 Lipson st. Permanent exhibitions include Journey, a look at emmigration by sea in the 1800s, early 1900s and in the 1950s. Also dolphins and a naval exhibitions. There is hands on interactive stuff for the kids.

The National Railway Museum Lipson St open 10-5
Here you can climb in and out of the engine cabs, walk through some of the old passenger trains, take a ride on a little steam train around the museum. The best thing here is the replica of the tea and sugar train that used to run across the Nullabor stopping at the sidings where the rail workers lived, sometimes in the middle of the night. It bought goods from Adelaide and sold meat, groceries and toys. At Christmas Father Christmas would ride the train bringing presents for the kids.
During the school holidays they usually have a Thomas the Tank day with all the paraphernalia.
