I have just arranged for all of our mail/post to be redirected to us here in Oz. I was really surprised at how cheap it was. £33 for 3 months, and it gets cheaper the longer you arrange it for. You can do it for up to 2 years. I was going to get it redirected to my mum and then she was going to send the important bits over to us but this way it is so much cheaper. It worked out only £13 more to redirect it here than to my mum in the UK. I have found that there is always someone important that you forget to tell that you have moved.

thanks for that Susan. I will put that on my "to do" list which is growing ever longer as each day passes.

Thanks Susan
Thats a good thing to know and a lot less stressful than redirecting to my mam's, due to the fact that she does not want us to go.
Thanks again
Jo:)

That's good to know. This was something I had wondered about. Just one question regarding redirecting post. When you move house in the same country you 9 times out of 10 usually know your new address, so can tell Royal Mail. When we move out of here we won't know our address in Australia until we get there and find somewhere to rent. I will look into the SA accomodation on arrival or apply to rent, if possible, one of the rentals advertised by the members on here but that will only be short term, until we find an area we like and get something more permanent, which will mean redirecting it again.
Was there anybody else in the same boat regarding this, and if so, what did you do?

Maybe you can get a PO box number then pick up your mail instead?
My uncle lives near Gawler and has no postman so he picks up his mail.

I was walking past the the Post Office at Park Holme shopping centre yesterday and noticed that they had several postboxes to rent, but I am not sure if you can do this from England.
I had my post redirected by the Post Office in England for 6 months, and by the amount of mail I have received I have saved far more than the cost, if postage had had to be paid on it.
One thing though, I have just had a letter from the English Post Office telling me that I could extend my redirection, by using the Internet etc, but that they needed 10 days notice. However I only received it 2 days before the redirection ran out!!!

Hi Beth
For the first 4 weeks ( this can be done for longer, upto 2 years) I had our mail redirected to my mums address in the Uk as we too did not know what our permanant address was going to be here in Oz. We managed to get a rental organised very quickly and moved into our new home here in our 5th week in Oz. I then just telephoned royal mail and arranged International redirection, it was as simple as that. You can also apply online, which is even easier as you do not need to provide id, you just need to provide them with your redirection number (they send you a letter with it on, the first time you register for redirection). You can then receive your mail here in Oz. This covers items upto 2 kg in weight. For 3 months International redirection it has cost me only £13 more than having it redirected to my Mum house in the UK. It can be done for 2 years also.
Hope this helps,
Susan.
