Is this bond just a SA thing? we never had to pay it nor were we ever asked to.

Maybe it was because my husband had a job to come to, actually all our paperwork was done by his employers, it was them who applied to DIMIA for permission to employ someone from overseas.

It is to do with acquiring enough points from DIMIA to be eligible for a visa - Nothing to do with SA.

You get 5 points towards your total if you invest the money in Australia so for many this is the way to reach the points needed to apply.

H Al & Laura

Yes, we just needed the 5 extra points. However, we do get the bond back with interest after 12months. Also, it may help us by not just buying the first thing we see - at least this way we will have a good look at all the suburbs before rushing into anything.........

We have just lodged our visa with Dima and going to go for our medicals (unrequested) in mid Jan - cant book yet as our doctors diary for 2007 isnt open!!

Speak soon

hi sarha you do know that you cant just go to your local doctors for meds they have got to be a australian authorised panel doctor + adults need x-rays and two blood tests if you have your meds done then you shorten the time you will have to enter oz once you get the go ahead from the date of meds you will have twelve months to enter so meds are always done last with police checks so it gives you time to sell house and arrange the big move.
hope that helps you alan&laura:D

Hi Al and Laura

Yes, luckily our doctors is on the list of panel doctors and we have now booked for the 9th December and are having our xrays next thursday.

We have sold our house and moving out on jan 4th so we are able to go once we get our visa. However, we have decided to go 1st week of July, for various reasons....our children will be able to finish their year (more or less, they dont do anything productive the last couple of weeks in july anyway) also, thats when the lease is up on our rented accomodation and also my hubbys new job is a 6 month contract from jan....so it all ties in..........

Looking forward to booking our flights now - going to do it once are house sale goes through and we have all that lovely cash in the bank!!
