Yes Mclaren Vale is just about country. Either look for accommodAtion in the city centre or along the metro beaches like Glenelg, etc. These are central and it's easy to explore north, south east and west from there.

It depends on what you like to do. Rachie is right if you intend to go to the Barossa Valley as it is a 2 hour drive from McLaren Vale. There's not much in the City but I suppose you might want to visit it once if you intend to visit the Museum or Zoo. lol. Glenelg and Victor Harbor is about 30 minutes away from McLaren Vale.
To be honest, I think McLaren Vale is a nice spot to stay and you can't really go wrong.

Yes Mclaren Vale is a nice spot in the heart of the Southern Vales and all the wineries. There is more to the city than just the zoo and the museum, but as said it depends what you want to do.If you like the southern suburbs and think you will look to settle there then it will be fine, but if you want to check out the rest of the suburbs to the north, east and west it is abit of a hike plus the cost of fuel consumption.

It does depend what you are here to do. If you are coming over for a relaxing holiday to validate your visas then go for it, lovely spot, lot of nice beaches, lots of wineries etc.
However, if you are coming out on what people generally call a 'recce' and hope to look at various suburbs, job possibilities, schools, go to a few rental or house sale 'opens' and generally make a decision on where to live, I'd say it's a bit far out (unless of course you have job prospects at the wineries!!) Dependent on what you are looking for in terms of jobs of course, but do bear in mind that 70% of jobs involved in manufacturing are based in the north, so if you want to go chat to employers etc and get a feel for suburbs in that area, then perhaps look to rent a little more centrally? A couple of the campsites are well located, and have great cabins that you could book, and November would be a lovely time weather-wise (usually!!) so might be worth looking at those? You still have lovely beaches, and the wineries to the north and the south are easily accessible.
