Hi
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good garage to get a 2nd hand car. We are looking for something reasonably cheap.
Thanks
Kris

Yes second hand cars hold their value very well. Whenwe came over I went to work and asked "what is the best selling car in Australia?" and they told me it was a Holden Commodore so I went out and bought one!! Well as I see it, the vast majority of people can't be wrong!
There are heaps of car yards around Adelaide. Main North Road is always a good spot to look.

You need to go to the car yards. There is one on Main North Rd up the hill from McDonalds in Enfield that sells cars for under $5000. Also buy the Trading Post, most people will allow you to get the car checked out if you are serious about buying it. Look in the Sat Advertiser , a lot of the car yards advertise in there. Garages usually don't sell cars, only petrol and rip off priced milk and coke.

If you want a used car from a main dealer try Suzuki in the City on Waymouth (well that's how it's spelt here!) Street. We bought a 2000 Baleno hatchback for $6k. The dealer was recommended by someone else here & although used car salesmen are the same the world over, at least these guys have a reputation to protect.

i wouldnt pesonally recommend the above for second hand cars unless you get the extra warrenty.oh and you are the guy buying the car as women are made to feel they know nothing which was very condesending ( in my exeperience and the salesman that we dealt with anyhow) we bought a reasonably priced second car which i took back for a few things that i wasnt happy about including the clutch and they couldnt find anything wrong. it took two trips alone to get the hand brake fixed correctly so it didnt move enough to stir a brew. we had it checked by an independant garage, as with the lack of reassurence that SITC would fix it properly, who has advised that the clutch is very high and may go at anytime and two days after the warrenty has run out seems to bunny hop judder when more power is wanted through acceleration! so booked into another garage again to get that sorted
cars!!:arghh: it was also not properly cleaned as they stated it would be inside which i pointed out on the first trip back there but nothing was done about it -- a little thing i know but it wasnt clean at all on the inside and they stated that it wouldve been done
I have seen other peoples recommendations and thier views that they are a good place to buy from but the above is just from our experience.
Our other car we purchased from wayne phillis kia and we got an extended warrenty with it which covers EVERYTHING and we have used that 3 times so far for a new radiater, power steering to be fixed as the fluid leaked also the boot filled with water.
They were/are great at customer service and no problems with anything that we have gone back with and gave a courtesy car in the meantimes.also found the cheapest fully comp insurence by far for both cars.
I think its luck of the draw with the car that you buy as they all do masses of distance
just try and get a car near where you live/rent then at least if owt is wrong its not a massive treck:)

We recently got a car from Toyota used cars (Cornes). However they were outrageous on the 'extras' and I think we only got out alive without buying any cos we had 3 young children in tow who'd put up with a 2 hr visit and test drive etc, and knew it was teatime!
Really recommend the place where a family member works (they didnt have what we were looking for else would have used them). Ex rental cars:
Hertz Car Sales SA
365 North East Rd
Klemzig
SA 5087.
phone: 08 8367 8611.
He was saying the other day they will let you have something like a 4 hr test drive, or even a whole day. Can review the entire history of where the car has been rented out to, interstate trips etc if necessary. They don't give ANY extras the hard sell - you have to ask for them if you want them to recommend extra things like window tints etc. They are totally different from the dealerships and definitely well worth a look.
