Devastated beyond belief.

Well after 11 wonderful months of pure family happiness we have been dropped the right old bombshell that my husbands skills are not good enough for us to remain in Australia. He is an amazing anaesthetist and one year from becoming a consultant by British standards, but yet here, they have told him today that all of his hard slog and exams for all those years in England count for nothing. If we stay he has to repeat all of his training again!!!

To say we are devastated is an understatement, but off we will go on the 30th January back to the cold and misery that is Great Britain and slog it out there for 18 months til he can reapply for assessment. (He will also be a consultant by then!)

However, we will depart Australia with our heads held high andwith the same love for the country that we have always had and be safe in the knowledge that in less than 2 years we will be back for good.

It is a very very sad day in the Church household today and not even this lovely sunshine that usually makes me so happy can bring a smile to my face.

:shocked::(:sad::sad:

That is ridiculous, they have been letting him work as an anaesthetist and doctor for 11 months, then say they don't recognise his training/qualifications, WTF why have they been letting him work if they believe that, it is also a bit of a worry that they let someone they don't belive is qualified work on saving peoples lives!

Sometimes the rules are so damn stupid.

Wishing you all the best. At least you know you have a route back here.

Our thoughts are with you, hopefully you will have a speedy return.

Have you considered getting the press in on this for some public pressure.

What awful news - how frustrating for you all. It doesn't sound like it makes sense at all. At least you are safe in the knowledge that it's not a rejection - just a temporary setback. All the very best for the next period of your lives - and you'll be back before you know it. x

Two points..............

1). what Tyke says is true.....Adelaide is a small news place..........try it......................Ive been a PRACTISING anaesthistist for however months but now im no good!!.....the local tv will lap it up.

2). as a nurse............im sure you could get sponsored within a couple of days if you go down the right channels....................there must be people on this site with info within that profession.

I would say thats your best bet for now

anyway good luck

How bloody silly. Makes my blood boil. Are u.k standards so inferior to ozzie ones!!!!

I can remember reading what you guys do and thinking my god they've got it so right.

Does it mean they will not allow him to practise? If so what job has he actually been doing the past 11 months.

This is something that needs to be addressed. There is a shortage of anaesthetists here. I wonder if oyu have thought about going public. Or making an appeal, if that is possible. Do you have a good immigration specialist.

Recently the immigration department tried to send back a country doctor as his son had Down syndrome and therefore failed the health criteria. Through the media it was appealed and the minister stepped in. Just a thought!

I'd get onto "A Current Affair" pronto. You never know. The Australian Immigration system is a complete ass.
