I have only read the first post (so sorry if this has been mentioned in subsequent replies)
but you said
think it's a pretty backward and non progressive backwater where bright kids leaving school have no future. Australia is on the whole unsophisticated with way too many racist attitudes, and I don't want my kids to grow up like that.
So whay am I still here?.....................because I'm worried that in the 4 years since we left Britain has become an even more overcrowded violent lawless cess pit where religious minorities are taking over
Personally, I think your mad to want to come back!
My family and I live in the south of England and can not wait to leave the UK. In the last couple of years the UK is having lots of problems.
Unemployment is getting very high (people with professions are leaving), there are simply no jobs.
money is being seriously cut from the schools (class sizes large, funding dire for kids who need help, buildings in serious need of repair, teachers fed up due to poor levels of respect, kids pushed pushed pushed to get high SAT results and poor nutrition)
Money is being seriously cut from the health service (nurses poorly paid, work long hours, severe shortage of staff, paperwork mad, buildings dirty and need of repair)
Petrol is very very expensive, food is expensive, council tax is unreal, electricity and gas getting higher by the minute.
Weather is cold and wet wet wet.
People here spend all their time in the rat race, work work work, travel to and fro work, have no money and the weather doesn't help.
I think you would be shocked how the UK is now. It does have gangs, drugs, discrimination, racism just the same as anywhere.
You would call me a "whinging pom" but there is nothing many people find here to be jolly about.
My opinion? definitely get your citizenship before doing anything. Once you have got that your options are then open. Then I would definitely come back for a holiday and travel round where you think you'd like to be then you can see whether its how you thought it was.
Adelaide isn't friendly then???
Adelaide is racist then???
Adelaide has lots of street gangs then???
Adelaide has high unemployment then???
Petrol is very expensive in Adelaide then???
Food is very expensive in Adelaide???
Money is being cut from Adelaide schools then??? poor education??? large classes??
Health service is poor in Adelaide then?? poorly paid nurses???
weather is awful in Adelaide then to????
So according to you Adelaide is an awful place to live? (are you a former whinging pom?) if you hate it why do you still live there then? or are you a racist against hard working British families coming to Australia and want to put me off???
This post says more about your attitude than the political & social issues of Adelaide or the UK.
Whilst I appreciate your predicament, I'd be asking myself what I want from my life, not wasting 6, 12 or 48 months on something that isn't what you want.....
Ask yourself this, what was your original reason for applying to move to Adelaide? If it was for a 'better life' then it would suggest your still seeking the same thing.
I'm learning quickly that sadly this world doesn't provide you with a pleasant land of happiness. You have to work for it....
I'm getting very confused as I was replying to a post written by someone asking what the UK had become like in the last 4 years and whether or not they should return to the UK or stay in Adelaide.
I was stating that the UK has been having problems of its own and that it may not be as they remembered it so should get citizenship, come back for a holiday and see if its how they remembered.
Not sure but someone replied that I needed a reality check so am assuming Adelaide is not going to give my family a better life after all?
I would like to move as my husband is going to be made redundant in the near future as even though we have been looking there is nothing around anywhere in the UK. His work colleagues are looking to Australia, New Zealand and Canada. It appeared that Adelaide had work available, it was a happy friendly place with good schools, petrol is cheaper than here and my kids would have a better quality of life.
Now I'm confused as people are getting cross with me. Is this not true then?
