IMO There's the odd entertaining program on terrestrial here, but a lot of american junk. We have Fox for the sports (EPL - yay) / movies / kids stuff, but agree that there is a lot of crap on there. That is unless you're into american sitcoms or american cop shows that specialise in acronyms...

And you'll soon come to love how the advert breaks become longer and more frequent as a program or movie draws to the end on terrestrial...

Bottom line, if you're coming here for the TV, you may be disappointed ;)

They have foxtel which is like sky tv lol some good progrmans on pptv(poor people tv) but also alot of crap.

FOXTEL - Download TV Shows and Movies to Your PC

Just because people dont want to pay for more American crap doesn't make them poor!!

Bit of a broad statement to make!

Personally everything Tv wise is available here one way or another!

Shocking :swoon:. If you have ever been to America, it just like theirs.

You will love the adverts that come on 2 minutes before the end of the programme, then they come back on for the last 2 minutes and go straight into the next programme without a break, it took me ages to realise what was going on if I went out of the room at the wrong time:embarrassed:.

I do actually like NCIS NOW.

There are some decent programmes on terrestrial TV, depends what you like. Also some good sport too - AFL, F1, V8, Moto GP, basketball, netball.

Ad breaks do get up your nose, but none on ABC channels thankfully. UK Top Gear takes 90 mins here on Channel 9 for a 60 min programme, and it's cut too, and the episodes are shown out of sequence. Dreadful.

We decided not to get Foxtel as we're not interested in the Premier League & we watch movies on DVD/Bluray. Couldn't see much else worth watching on Foxtel to be honest. Nowhere near as many channels or choice as Sky but not any cheaper. Think it's quite poor value for money.

We download a few things from BBC iPlayer too.

Didn't come here for the TV though. Just as well!!

I guess it depends what you like to watch. We recently had family who's favourite programs were Brothers and Sisters, Desperate Housewives and 24 (they even got a Season Pass to record them whilst away - sad I know). They are all on free to air here but they have to subscribe to Sky back home. Not only do we get it for free but we also watch 24 and we are a week ahead of UK. They were convinced the kids would miss their soccer but they were into Aussie Rules within a week. Ten HD has enough sport from overseas to catch up on anything you might miss.

Besides, you'll probably find for 7 or 8 months of the year that the TV is hardly on.

Cheers, Kazza

ABC and SBS are OK. The ABC shows lots of British shows which stand out because of their quality in comparison to all the American rubbish. On ABC you get Gavin and Stacey, Graham Norton, Britain from Above, Waking the Dead, Midsomer Murders, Jools Holland, The Bill, Doc Martin etc. SBS has lots of foreign language programs, Channel 4 type programs, football (soccer) and Bear Grylls!!. We've resisted getting Foxtel so far, there are some good shows on Freeview (for example the Inbetweeners on Go) but a lot of rubbish too. The adverts drive you mad.

we found the telly pretty rubbish when we were out there. Me and my ozzie mate had been following a series each week and the last night it was due to be on some other programme was on instead. My mate said that happens a lot out there.
