Flights - ADL to LHR return

Can anyone advise which airlines are best. I'm looking at direct flights from ADL to LHR with only one stop over and the shortest duration possible.

 

I've flown with a few airlines but don't want to fly via Melbourne/Sydney.

 

What do you look for when you book flights?

My preference is Singapore Airlines,I've always had excellent service from them.

i would certainly use singapore airlines. Never had bad service. went for 11.50am flight as only 4 hour stop over in singapore then straight to london heathrow. Even sent kids with singapore to see grandma while i am still here!!!!!!!they were very well looked after i must say.

 

i do hear that malaysian airlines are good too but havn't used them myself.

I have always used Singapore Airlines and really cannot fault them at all for service or price. Just booked Adelaide to Manchester and they were the cheapest by far. Family members have also flown Malaysian who are good but they said not as good as Singapore.

I've just paid $1963 to go with Singas next month, straight through, got a ripper of a price for 1 day sale with bestflights.com.au . All other airlines around $2500 +/- $200. Flew with Malaysian to Phuket last December, didn't rate them at all.

the quickest involves Melbourne for both directions, and is via quantas.

 

But i really do like Singapore airline

Cathay Pacific do this route as my son flew that route out and back at Christmas with them. Reasonable price too at £880 flying at the most expensive time.

Qantas direct ADL to SIN. A380 Qantas to LHR. Transfer time in Sing 3 - 4 hours. You would get enough frequent flyer points to go somewhere in Aus and back as well

Michelle if you go to Singapore websit and choose your day t fly you can then swap the connecting, most flights leave here lunch time ish. The longer you are at singapore the cheaper the flight becomes. Hope that makes sence

Looking at the connection times, Malaysia offer the quickest most direct route. All the others are longer stopovers in Singapore and I don't want to spend 6 hours in the airport or via Melbourne or Sydney. Sydney transfer from Domestic to International is a nightmare and don't fancy doing that. Singapore Airlines is also the most expensive.

Would not recommend Malaysian at all. Flew to England with them recently, got back Saturday. Food was appalling, breakfast on flight into Heathrow consisted of Prawn curry with no choice at all.

 

Have flown with them on two previous occasions prior to emigrating and they were great. Don't know if the drop in prices has made them drop their standards.

Cathay Pacific stopover in Hong Kong was 2.5 hours coming out and 5 going back. You get to see the newish HK airport which is quite impressive but hasn't got the garden like KL!

Stevo the stop overs at singapore are 1.5 hours while the big thing refuels. They had 2 hour wait at Melbourne to and from adelaide.

wait in Sing is killer and saps time.

The in laws did it a couple of months ago when the hill blew up in iceland. They normally fly from manchester but it was less time to drive down to heathrow and fly rather than wait 18 + hours in Sing.

He spent ages working it out not using cost as a factor and this was the fastest he could find at the time.

we just got back to the UK on Tuesday morning. Flew Adelaide to Sydney, Syd to Singapore, then on to Heathrow. Although we were only in Singapore half an hour to let the plane refuel etc I will never again fly via Sydney. Going from Domestic to International was a nightmare, and because it was almost 2 hours flight to syd from Adelaide and then after another 4 hours flying we were still over Australia we felt like the moving map on the plane had stopped! Seemed to take forever! We booked with Qantas but ended up on the BA plane and have to say we were surprised that the service and meals were good, having flown BA before and been disappointed. But am still glad that flight is over..and so is my bum!

If you can get in the economy section upstairs on the 380 with Singapore its worth the slightly longer stop in Singapore. Couldn't believe how much quieter and more comfortable the smaller cabin upstairs was, especially as its only 2 - 4 -2 seating. Couldn't fault Singapore Airlines at all, and if you have to stop at any airport, Changi is by far the best.

Hi, Just wanted to say double check if going to fly with Singapore Airlines, they now seem to do an hours stop in Munich, so that may put you off? My Mum recently flew here and she said was ok on way out but tiring on the way back to UK. We were looking at possible flights to UK and Quantas don't fly from Adl to UK, have to go to Melb, Bris, Syd or Perth first! then they re fuel at Singers or Hong Kong.

Qantas do fly direct from Adl to Sing. It's flight QF81 arrives Sing 1820.

Then QF 31 (a380) leaves sing 2350 to LHR 0625 or

QF 9 departs Sing 2305 to LHR 0525

QF 319 (brit airways operated) departs Sing 2310 to LHR 0535.

I too would suggest getting a direct flight into ADL. There is nothing worse than arriving in MEL or SYD and having to get the connecting flight to ADL it really is the pits.

Cathay Pacific flights Heathrow-Hong Kong-Adelaide are between 26-27 hours in total. They can be more expensive but you can also get a good deal if you aren't too choosy with dates. Have to be careful they don't pull a fast one with an unexpected change in Melbourne on the way out as has happened to me. This also often happens with the Emirates Adelaide-Dubai run where you end up getting off the plane in Singapore while they change crews and clean the plane - and they insist you take all your cabin luggage with you which is a real pain if you have kids with toys/booster seats etc. This seems to be the luck of the draw as I know other people who have taken the same flight number on different days and have gone straight through to Dubai.
