A reminder folks, particluarly to TEMP residents that you still qualify for the FHOG and can claim retrospectivly when you get permanent residents. We bought our home last May as Temp Residents, became permanent residents early this year and then applied for the grant. Received confirmation this week that we qualify and money heading into our account in 4 weeks time :)

You can only claim however if your home was built or purchased within one year of your claim, so temp residents who have to wait more than that time will not qualify.

How do you claim the money back?

If you are applying for a mortgage and are eligible for the grant at that time ie. permanent resident etc then you complete the appropriate forms and generally the lender/broker will facilitate this.

If you are not applying for a mortgage and/or applying after the house sale ie. if gaining permanent residency within 12 months of completion/settlement then you will have to apply direct to Revenue SA, forms here http://www.revenuesa.sa.gov.au/fhog/forms.html

Regards

If you get your mortgage broker to handle your First Home Owner's Grant (FHOG for short) you will only need to proved one form of ID. Do it yourself, and you will need to provide no less than 4 separate forms of ID for each mortgage applicant!
