Businesses/services that are 'absent' in Adelaide

Hi all

I'm considering starting a business over here at some point, which my wife will probably run. As such, I'm looking for a few wee gaps in the market. I've noticed that mobile car-washers (car-washing people who come to your place of employment and wash your car) isn't that popular here. I also don't see too many dvd vending machines either.

Any other 'opportunities' you may have picked up on? If you come up with a suggestion that I decide to embark on, I'll give you shares in the company! :notworthy:

It's a hard call.

When we arrived we had several business plans that were not here. Then we found out they were not here because either they were imossible to run in this country or just not needed.

Do loads of research before comitting to a project.

There are quite a few mobile valet services here, perhaps our car become dirtier in the south???:biglaugh:

Onya for having a go!!!!

Hi there,

It costs big bucks but Adelaide could do with a "Spur" steak ranch. Somewhere where the families can take the kids but not a total fast food joint!

They have them in Perth and Sydney.

There are also loads of products (food etc) that are not readily available here although some speciality shops do stock them.

My OH complains all the time abouth the price of things compared to overseas. He was overseas last month...the price of matresses...4 times the cost here, tiles, 4 times the cost...paint etc.

Maybe an import / export business?

Tamara

My wife said the same thing! There are lots of ice-cream shops tho and I know that most councils aren't keep on street vendors. Glenelg, for example, doesn't allow any form of street vending. A New York-style hotdog cart would be awesome near the beach, but nope........

race relations officers.

Like it :biglaugh::biglaugh:

There are heaps of mobile valeters over here , they are just known as `detailers`;)

DVD vending machines would be a bit impractical as nearly every suburb has a local DVD shop , if I have an idea , I wouldn`t be sharing it anyway ;)

Sorry !!!!

On the subject of specialist shops - there are all those little ones that used to be in London stations that I've not seen anywhere here : The Sock Shop, Knickerbox, and that one selling croissants and filled french bread whose name I can't remember! Don't know if they have them in Sydney and the bigger capitals but not seen any here!

I really miss being able to buy good (like M&S) ready made sandwiches here, but I think it's a cultural thing - the aussies look horrified at the thought! Oh, for a brie and walnut sandwich on really nice bread.... Perhaps your wife could take a tray of gourmet sandwiches round offices and places of work?

I knew there was something... open an English butchers. Somewhere in the middle so that North / South divide PIA members are all happy. :) ANd make really good pork sausages.

Then you can franchise it when you are world (OK, Adelaide) famous.

Nah, we`ve already found the perfect sausage, english boiled ham and proper corned beef, not that tinned stuff ;)

We`ve even found the elusive pork pie :notworthy:
