Was listening to a discussion about hand held speed cameras on the radio the other day - at the moment there is no independent testing or checking of their calibration, the manufacturer won't allow it, and you don't even get full details of the offence/prevailing conditions/where the operator was standing etc when you are issued with the expiation! Totally weighted in favour of the revenue raisers!!

One sure way of getting away with it, dont speed. The rules are there for disclosure in regards to the devices used, you can not obtain copy's of the maufactures guidelines or testing, but you are allowed to read it.

The test used to calibTe it is simple and conducted prior to eCh UAE by the operator, this should be done at the start of a shift Nd after being used.

The calibration is over a distance of 50 & 25 meters and has a maximum tolerance of the distance measured.

SA are determined to reduce road deaths and raise revenue through these devices nd fixed and mobile cameras.

They will certainly roll out the exprienced prosecutors and appeal any decisions in regard to speeding fines.

Easier to slow down..
