Shipping BACK to the UK - costs?

Hi all

We're coming out on a 457 visa in August. It's for 2 years initially.

Anyone filled (or part filled) a container heading back to the UK?

Could people let me know any quotes they'd got ? PM is fine if you don't want to post it publicly.

I know it's early to think about when we head back (before we've even got there) but how much it costs to ship stuff back to the UK has an impact upon how much we ship out to Oz in the first place - if you catch my drift!

Thanks all - Ryan :D

Hi

I am just in the process of getting quotes to ship back to the UK. It is so much more than when we originally came here. For a 20ft container it is costing between $7500 - 9000. That is to fill it, I am sure if you are not using the full 20ft and are sharing a container then it would be a lot less.

Hope this helps!

Well, I've just been quoted $9k AU to ship a 20ft container to Oz, because I'm being forced to use corporate accounts etc....... It's all coming out of my relocation allowance so I'm a bit miffed. I mean, that's £6000 GBP and I know for a fact that others doing it 'privately' can get the exact same service for £3800-4200.

It's one business ripping off another - with muggins here losing out.

That does seem a bit steep. I had just over half a 20ft container coming over here and it cost 2200 GBP including insurance!

Well, as expensive as my quote seems....... It was $3000 AUD cheaper than the next one.

Bunch of flowers = £20

Bunch of flowers for a wedding = £60

Same thing with shipping companies and relocation allowances. They know you have a budget and they want as much of it as they can get.

Hi Ryan,

We used a company called overseas packers and removers...they charged us $1700 for 1/2 20ft container (that was Brisbane to London)

Hope this helps a little.

We paid $7500 for a 20ft container. Our goods are still on the high seas arriving in Liverpool around 5th July so will let you know if it arrives in one piece and who the shippers are.

No, we insured separately with Marine Insurance who charge roughly 1% of total value as opposed to 2.5-3% by the removal company. Will let you know whether the stuff arrives in one piece. We are so glad to be back in the UK.

We paid $7500 for 32 cu ft. from Adelaide to Harrogate. We used a 40ft container as it was just over 20 cu ft.

Hi Colette

I am just in the process of arranging the shipping back to the UK. I am over a 20ft and would need to part fill a 40ft. The cheapest quote I have had is $9000. If you don't mind me asking who did you use?

Thanks for the link to the marine insurance. I am going to get a quote from them.

This is who we used. Peter was very helpful and efficient. I won't know until our goods arrive whether the packing was successful. I emailed them the other day and it bounced back so if you contact them can you let me know if they have changed their email address. Where are you moving back to?

Hi Colette,

We have also had a quote from ITS and Peter has been very helpful,I don't think their email has changed but I did have a bounce back recently and Peter said they have been experiencing a few problems with their email, try and send it again...see if that goes through.

When is your shipment due to arrive? Hope everything arrives safely, you'll have to let us know, we are seriously considering ITS but we came out with Wrigways/John Mason and they have agreed to match ITS price so we are just weighing it all up at the moment.

Good Luck Colette !!!

We have been here since mid May and living out of suitcases but just love being back despite the weather. Are waiting to complete on a house in Harrogate. Really can't emphasise enough how wonderful it is to be back. Best of luck with the house.

Will let you know how it all goes. We are doing ITS/John Mason to Harrogate. Hopefully it will arrive in the UK on 5th July and we hope to complete house purchase on 9th July so it would be great if it all worked out. Delighted to be back. Best of luck to you too!

Hi everyone, I hope I am ok posting this in here - this thread came up in my search for forums regarding marine insurance.

I am a marine insurance broker specialising in cargo. In addition I spent two cricket seasons playing for Gravesend in the Kent League in '03/4 and my partner is a Kent native who I met when over there. We now live in Sydney with our 4yr old daughter; so I know all too well the stresses of Au/Uk moves!

Should have have any questions whatsoever regarding insurance wordings/options just let me know at tim.cutler@fp-marine.com. Feel free to check us out at http://www.fp-marine.com.au or my twitterfeed at http://www.twitter.com/TimCutlerFP. We have six offices including London, Hong Kong, Sydney & Melbourne.

For professionally packed shipments our full "accidental damage" cover is availabe with a base rate of 0.17%. Standard excess is 1% of the sum insured (min AUD500) however you can reduce your premium with higher excesses of 2%/min $1,000 by 15% - and 3%/min $2,000 by 27.5%.

If you would like a quote or have any questions please just fire away!

Many thanks - and sorry for the spam!

Tim

Ah, that's sad to hear, are you not happy here ?

I found myself unhappy and struggling to settle for at least 6 months but after that I started to see the positives. My hubby is still really keen on going home and I can't see that ever changing....

I hope you find happiness, where ever it may be Tess

so jealous of you all going home to uk...goos luck ...wish it was me :-(

We too are currently in the process of obtaining quotes for shipping back to the UK. We have had quotes from Peter at ITS and also Wridgeways and Crown. We contacted another removal company who failed to get back to us. Does anyone have any other companies they can recommend for removals?
