simply wrap up and wrap up well. Otherwise you'll be paying $$$ to be comfy.

The most cost effective portable heaters imho would be a modern kerosene (paraffin) heater, heat up a whole room and cheap as chips to run.

I'd say buy new rather than second hand, because at least now things have star ratings.

 

I think oil filled radiators with fans that blow out warm air are supposed to be quite good.

 

Is there absolutely NO heating in your house at all? Usually there's a gas heater or something in at least one of the main rooms.

 

Buy rugs, use draft excluders, keep doors shut, curtains closed, all those things that stop drafts getting in and heat escaping. Let go of the idea that the whole house has to be warm and choose to heat particular rooms that make sense and are not going to be terrible drains on the electricity.

Its a brand new build and i never thought to ask about heating I was so glad of a clean decent house I Totally forgot OOOpppsssss

I shall go and find heaters tomorrow bunnings etc I do be thinking

Also where will i get an exercise bike

Well I totally am with you there... there's a limit to what you can find out about a house in 15 mins isn't there?! Just staggered they put *nothing* in. Is it worth checking the rent site thingy (it's late and I really cannot be finding out the web address now... tomorrow!) to see whether it's reasonable you ask for at least some heating method to be installed?

 

What's the aircon? Is it reverse cycle? I guess not.

Are you sure the aircon's not reverse cycle? check the manual.

If not, easier than heating the room/house up is to heat yourself up. electric throw rugs run on peanuts compared to an electric heater, hot water bottles or heat packs also help.

we went online and found portable gas fire, the ones we had years ago in uk that runs off bottle gas it was great

Hi folks thanks for the suggestions I got the manual and read it And low and behold it dose heat so there going to get a timed heater for the kids room with a timer for the mornings as suggested So problem solved ! thanks Again

We use a convection heater minus a fan to heat our lounge. It's always lovely and warm but we do plan about 15 mins ahead before we want to use the room. We don't heat the bedrooms etc. but have electric blankets to heat the beds which are turned off once we get into bed. Our family room has a gas heater with a fan. Our power bills are not too bad.

 

The most important thing is to zone the house and to only heat the rooms you use a lot. Unless you have time and are very patient, I would avoid oil filled column heaters as they take ages to heat a room despite the fact they are economical to run. I saw a report last week that suggested gas heaters and convection are the most common affordable options.
