Container ship aground splits in two

OMG! I guess this is why we all need insurance when we ship our belongings.

      Terrible.

I was trying to post a one word message but it wouldn't let me so I have invented this really long useless sentence to post my word! (Which really also refers to the oil spill and pollution rather than whether I would have lost my wardrobe! But i guess it makes me feel a bit better about the insurance we did indeed take out on our belongings when they were shipped not so fantastically by [insert name of shipping company that I have actually now forgotten] !!)

The danger there is the oil spills. Hopefully all the crew are safe.

All of the crew were taken off the boat a while back apparently - although reading the report it says it ran aground on 5th October! Surely they could have done something before now if its been there that long, throughout summer months? :/

I remembered reading on a thread here a while back someone asking was insurance really necessary as how often did a container ship sink. Well, they do! But we had heard that even though containers are bolted together on the ships it is not unusual for them to come loose in high winds and storms and slide into the sea.

Of course the oil spill is most important issue here.

The majority of oil was all removed months ago and the salvage team have been working to remove the containers since then. The main concern now is some of the containers contained toxic waste and this could cause a lot more issues for this beautiful coastline. There was a huge big storm here which caused it to break in two. The ship was way of course and should have been no where near the reef currently the captain and other crew members are awaiting prosecution in New Zealand.
