how long in a holiday let

We are about to book a holiday let in April which we think are very dear, do you people think 3 weeks from when we land to finding a nice rental in a good area is do able or do you think we need a month because the hoilday lets are double what a similar house is on real estate, we understand that we need to view renatals once we are there, but just wondered how long till we find one and can move in to it.

Well, it certainly gives you a major incentive to find somewhere else ;p

 

I've read some people taking them for a couple of weeks, others a month/4 weeks. Not many seem to take them longer than that as it does get expensive it seems.

 

You are going over at Easter time? Might be why its a bit more pricey also.

 

I'd hope if you are prepared and get right to house hunting you hopefully will find somewhere within the 3 weeks. I guess its different for everyone. Some seem to find a house quickly, others it takes a bit longer. Be prepared for all eventualities and perhaps needing to stay in a cheap hotel or something if you can't find somewhere or take the lease on within the 3 weeks you are in a short term let.

We're in a similar situation....we've got a holiday apartment booked for the first 4 weeks (OH is there first then we join him a couple of weeks later) and hope to find somewhere to rent in that time....have given OH a shortlist of rentals to work on once he arrives but who knows!? The 4 week period in the apartment runs out just before Easter weekend so the pressure's on!!! Gulp....!

Hello,

We only booked three weeks as well. We wanted our holiday home where we were thinking of living, so ended up with a three bedroom home for the two of us. It's definetly worth the money, having a ready made home when you first arrive, but we had our rental within two weeks so had a few days overlap which was good to get organised. We spent two days recuperating after we arrived then got all ID stuff sorted, then looked at any rental we fancied. Saw some awful ones but got the first one we applied for, so maybe lucky!? We did start planning a back up plan, but the cat was on her way so that was a wee bit stressful!

Definetly doable!

Hi Sasha, we fly over in April. We have a fully furnished holiday rental from 24th April until 25th May, going to find a long term rental in that time. Were planning to hit the ground running. Xx what area are your heading to?

Majority usually stay between 4 - 6 weeks - this gives time to usually find a long term rental in that time.

 

 

Have you tried looking at short term furnished rentals? They usually are cheaper than holiday lets and usually give alot more space. We are booked out for April - but try looking at www.adelaideshorttermrentals.com.au

Hi, we booked 6 weeks accom and ended up paying for the new rental and the furnished acom for a couple of weeks as we sorted a rental out sooner than we thought. I would say 3 weeks is bare minimum but then you wont have the bother of overlapping two places and the costs that incurrs. Its all a gamble though so how long is that piece of string?!

We booked for 6 weeks and it was fine. It took the pressure off us becuse we didn't have to take one of the grotty rentals (and there are loads of them) that we looked at. You should be able to negotiate a cheaper rate the longer you stay. Another thing to think about is all the add on costs like all the bills, internet and other things that you will pay in an unfurnished place, they sure do add up and australia is not a cheap place to live.

We were lucky when we arrived 4.5 years ago. We could only book 8 days in a holiday rental. We managed to get a rental in Seaford and moved in on the 9th day!

Hi we only booked 2 weeks holiday rental and found a long term rental and had a few days overlap which is great to get sorted and electricity etc. For us this worked great and we were ready to leave the holiday let (it was lovely just wanted to get settled) and get sorted asap.

 

We looked at a few properties- we didn't really wait for open houses we rang estate agent and basically said we're interested in viewing and need to do it today/tomorrow and have the money to put down asap- had no problems, saw some horrific places (nothing like internet photos!) but got first one we applied for.

 

Not going to say it was the most enjoyable experience though.. especially in 97 degree heat! But it can be done- have a look at areas and houses on real estate to get an idea of what you want and start short listing a few properties in the first week.

Also just to let you know- we were told the day the electricity was turned on to stay in between 7am and midnight and it could be any time!! Luckily (as it was so hot and obviously no fridge/air con) ours was switched on about 9am but I have heard of someone waiting in until 11:45pm :0 so especially if you have kids it would be great to have an overlap day so one of you and kids could enjoy the luxury of electricity!!
