Asbestos on Hallett Cove Beach?

R & H

Recommended Posts

Just read a scary article dating back to 2010 about the local authorities not clearing asbestos from the dunes at Hallett Cove beach, apparently being the remnants of some old beach shacks - anyone know of any updates on this situation - very concerned whether it's a safe beach ... As it's inferred the asbestos was not dealt with efficiently at the time :wideeyed:

I never knew there were any shacks around Hallett Cove - but I do know there is a heck of a lot of Asbestos here in Oz.It was heavily used in construction here.

There used to be old shacks along the the edge of the cliffs people from Adelaide used to go to Hallett cove for there holidays. The asbestos was fenced off and was removed but it did take a while it was not right on the beach but in the bank. There is asbestos every where here a lot of older houses have it as there yard fence. They used asbestos in some forms up until 1983 here in house construction where as in the UK they were removing it in the 70s so if your house is earlier than 1983 more than likely there will be some form of asbestos in it, It may only be in the vinyl floor tiles but if left alone its not harmfull.
