Sports Mad Aussies?

Has anyone ever heard the rumour that Aussie’s are sports mad? Has anyone realised that it is a complete lie! Most Aussie’s like a bit of kick and chase (AFL) admittedly (watching, but not necessarily playing) and some like a bit of cricket – but most don’t seem to like or play any sport at all (except for riding their bikes up to the top of Mount Lofty at a weekend, avoiding the terrible car drivers, to get a coffee and ride back home again). In my experience, Brits are far more sports mad and like a much wider range of sports – they watch it at the pub, at home with mates, they play it, they talk about it on a Monday morning and for the rest of the week at work (not about how busy they are all the time!) – not just sports played in Britain but sports played all over the world. Most Aussie’s seem to spend the vast majority of their time indoors (there are stats to back that up) – which is pretty obvious when you look at the state of most Aussie’s gardens! They also work some of the most unpaid overtime in the world (although I don’t really think that it is overtime if you don’t do your job when you’re at work during normal hours!). Sports mad, definitely not.
