Everything you are feeling is quite normal for such a giant move - and those last few months are a massive drain. We found we were torn between untangling our UK lives, trying to work on the Australia stuff and also making the most of seeing friends and family. It was pretty insane looking back on it. There is so much that is unknown and I look back and think - how did we get through it.
It's a tough time to be moving over here too - UK houses prices down, exchange rate shocking and Australia's cost of living is not the dream it once was so congratulate yourself on having some serious gumption to swim against the flow and give it a go.
We've been here 6 months and things are coming together well - I think once you get here it gets a little easier as you are just then focused on the one goal rather than coping with all the emotional turmoil of the leaving part. We came with no jobs and little idea of what to expect....but we've had our first Christmas here and very much enjoying the lovely summer weather and the new opportunities that are presenting themselves. As far as places to rent go, we've started modest too and that's working out well for us, a little bit of a squeeze with 3 children, but on one salary we couldn't really afford much more for the moment.
Best of luck.
