It has just been announced on the news this morning that Myer, the largest Department Store in Australia (like Marks and Spencer or John Lewis) is going to offer 6 weeks paid maternity leave after staff have been with the company for 18 months, 81% of their staff are female.

 

The company I work for offers no maternity pay at all and legally they do not have to offer you anything.

 

So anyone thinking of having a baby over here, something to think about.

 

You do get a one off payment from the Government though when the baby is born, $4,500 I think it is.
