Yep, I have my eye on some $1691 deals to London in AUGUST on Sinagpore - great times, great connects - bargain!

soo, I would recommend you book direct with singapore, the purchase process lets you in on choosing a seat and if you you can get the right A380 flights in/out of singapore/london then you can get in the top deck economy where there is only some 50 quieter economy seats with the window seats being in two's only with a handy storeage cupboard against the window which helps in giving you more elbow room. You may have to change the actual day and or time you fly to get the right configured plane seating, but a phone call booking to singapore airlines could be quicker, also the sooner you book the better chance you have of getting your preferred seats. Also check out 'seat guru' for the seating plans and numbering so you can be fore armed with seating alternatives.

Happy flying

that sounds good, i keep checking as going home in September for my sons graduation (as a surprise), if anyone sees September dates released let me know, as its bound to happen when i'm not looking and don't wont to miss out on a bargain

Thanks debbie

Debbie, it is usually a max 11 months a head so it will be coming out soon, but you could try phoning the airlines now and see what they have to say, you can also get email notifications if you 'tick the box' on their websites. Also look at 'Best Flights' they are pretty quick at sending out upto the minute notifications, they are WA based and I have used them many times both for info and booking, especially for some round the world deals which were cheaper than direct UK flights in high season.

hi all there are really are some great flight deals out there at the moment especially with Singapore airlines and emirates but as a travel agent who works for a local agent in adelaide can I just say that if you ask or are up front that you have got a price online then most agents are happy to match it for you and also help with car hire, insurance etc. one thing I have learnt since being an agent in oz is that it is very far from anywhere and to have an agent looking after you for any changes, emergencies etc that is on call 24/7 is invaluable when you will pay the same price or maybe $20 each more not to mention it keeps us all in a job and helps a local company.

the flights will come out approx 11 months in advance and this is the best time to grab them to go away next year as they generally will only go up in slight increments from here on in!! Singapore airlines are also doing a $1 stopover so if you fly with them and do a stop either on the way over or the way back you only pay $1 per person for the first night at selected hotels so a great way to see singapore

if anyone wants business class I have to say Malaysian airlines win for the best deal this year and although it's not a fully flat bed you can pick up a $5500 ticket on some dates and routes

anyway hope this helps someone and hopefully nobody will have a problem when they go away but you never think it will, happen to you and an agent is a useful tool - rant over!!!

thnks

sorry forgot to say this is not a dig at the previous poster more at the info emirates are giving out which is annoying!!! fwiw an agent can also hold flight seats for 3-5 days as well which is great if anyone has done the same as me and booked the flights as they were cheap and hoped that dates were ok and then you can't get the annual leave or you call the relatives and they can't do those dates!!!

Fair enough OKMorris, you make me feel bad now about not keeping it in the local economy. I do use travel agents too (24/7???), but I must say though travel agents say they will beat/match the price I have experiences where they have not, also they still have booking fees and credit card charges, which generally is not the case when booking direct with the airline. I add that I need to pay with my credit card to be eligeable for the complimentary travel insurance included with the card.

One more thing, I have not, when using a travel agent, on several occasions now being able to select a seat at the time of booking.

So pia members, I only offer up suggestions based on my experiences, you are all free to go with which ever method you feel most comfortable dealing with, and if a travel agent is your choice then we need to find out where OKMorris is and give him and your local economy some support.

thanks for the plug i had a post removed for "advertising" that I can do flights for people on here but pm me if u want to find me!!!! I'm a her by the way!! I have no experience of other agencies but we can definitely do seat selection for you when we book the flights and sometimes it's about being up front with the agent and giving them the price you have found as I find it is much easier to start that way. when I refer to 24/7 I refer to my particular agencies 24 hour emergency assistance line where someone from our agency will man the phone 24/7 on a roster basis just in case any of our clients have a problem (no you do not get this if you book at the red and white one admittedly!!) as for booking fees generally we don't have those but fair enough there are credit card fees same as some websites etc but as you say it is normally cheaper to pay these and get the free insurance with your credit card company than it is to pay for an actual policy

again no offence meant to anyone on here everyone is free to choose how they book there travel I am just here to play devils advocate that there may be another way!!

either way way the moral of the story is the flights are damn cheap at the moment so grab them while u can!!

I can recommend that you give Kirsty a call (OKMorris) at Phil Hoffman Travel, and she will be able to help you out. I believe that she is based at the city store along Pirie St. Number should be on their website.

By the way I have no affiliation with Kirsty or PHT, just a recommendation for you guys to get the best deal on flights.

There is a way to advertise not sure how you do it, check out your profile/settings, or maybe an administrator/moderator can advise.

Set up a signature with your contact details in it - then everytime you post on any subject, you get a little free publicity! This was considered the best way to handle things, as the more someone posts the more advertising they get, and the more benefit the site gets too - win win!

I'd just like to add, although I don't know OKMorris - if you can find a good travel agent they are worth their weight in gold! There is a heck of a lot of training and skills involved in travel organising, and as flying anywhere from Australia is not just a short hop, then a good travel agent that can advise about stopovers, airport facilities, connection times etc, is a real asset. There are a few travel agents out there that give the profession a bad name (unfortunately I've had my fingers burnt with a couple!) so the fact that Kirsty has a recommendation from a regular poster on the site is an excellent sign! I'll definitely be giving her a call for my next holiday (Do you specialise in any particular area, Kirsty?)
