This news is a week old now, but I think it is worth shouting about. Many people think Adelaide and SA are way behind the other mainland states but historically we have had many firsts. The first Chambers of Commerce / Manufacturers in Aust, the first YMCA outside Europe, first state secondary school for girls, first colony to give women the vote, first female judge in Aust, first to decriminalise same sex sexual relationships, first to make rape in marriage a criminal offence, first sex discrimination act in Aust. More recently we have the first and only world music festival WOMAD in Aust and the first cycle tour race outside Europe.

The latest one that makes me very proud to be a South Aussie is that we have appointed a Vietnamese born who arrived in Australia as a refugee as the next SA Governor.
