Hi everyone.

Well we finally got here to sunny Adelaide. We have been here approx 1 week and heres how it went.

Got off plane at 08:20 Tuesday morning and after clearing customs etc we jumped in a cab (wagon) as we had too many cases for a normal cab and were whisked off to our short term base camp. We decided to book into Adelaide camp site in Hackney, which is just North of the CBD so right near all the action. Not that we were intending on attending it as its not a holiday its moving our life lol. So before jet lag could grab hold we jumped in a cab again and headed for Avis rent a car. No particular reason just was the first we walked into. Got a small run about and plugged the sat nav in and drove off lol. We had already decided we wanted to settle in the north east area of Adelaide so we started driving in that area and stopping at evey real estate shop we saw and grabbed the rental lists. Not to bore you with the details but we spent the next 4 days house hunting, stopping at McDonalds every morning to jump on the wifi to look for houses. As we knew from here about the open day viewing of the properties it was quite easy to deal with. Once we found the house we wanted we had a chat with the agent and did the deal. Advise. We had already opened an Oz bank account from UK and had transferred our house sale money into it. We still had no cards as they were still on order so we popped into a branch and they happly printed off the balance and stamped and signed it. Once we showed we had enough money the house was ours.

Now we have an address next week we can get our medicare, driving licence tax number etc and the job hunting starts.

Its been an emotional week and very scary and i will tell everyone about to make the journey, just keep focussed and get a good nights sleep each night cause youll need the energy. We stopped using the satnav after day 1 and started map reading so we learnt the streets, after day 3 we could drive all around North east adelaide without help. Tomorrow we head south to explore there.

Will update next week once we are in our house etc

Good luck everyone

Mark & Tracey

That's the fastest way to find your bearings. It's easier to let a satnav guide you but to get to grips with where places are and actually learn where you're now living, the best thing is to unplug it and and do the work yourself. Seems like you're settling in well, keep us informed of how you get on in the next few weeks!

Shout out if you're looking for anything in the area and can't find it, although you seem to have got your bearings pretty well  (Medicare and Driving License place are quite close together - you can park under the Medicare Centre near the Smart Road/Reservoir Road roundabout, and park behind the Transport SA office)

and if you want to shop and eat big time across the road is the tea tree plaza, nice pub on the corner for hubbie, maccas opposite the pub for the kids and if you feel ill, across the road again is the Modbury hospital.....and if hubbies too drunk to drive, the bus interchange for buses everywhere is behind the plaza...
