[h=1]This is yet another positive service facilitated by the Adelaide city council. This is really relevant for all those family members who visit and have mobility issues.

It's a service that will help our family in the future too as limited mobility has an impact upon quality of life.

Some Adelaide businesses and organisations are offering free recharge points for mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs.Adelaide Lord Mayor Martin Haese hoped the scheme would give a boost both for people reliant on motorised mobility vehicles and for city retailers and businesses.Organisers of the recharge scheme said it cost businesses only a small amount to let people plug in their vehicles to refresh the batteries."It will encourage people to linger in the city and enjoy its offerings without the fear of running out of charge for their vehicle," Mr Haese said."Council is committed to best practice access and inclusion planning and this agreement between council and key organisations across the city highlights the work we are doing."Recharge points so far are being offered at the University of South Australia City East and City West campuses, the SA Museum, State Library, Festival Centre, Adelaide Zoo, the Women's and Children's Hospital, Eastend Cinemas and Phat Cafe in Hindley Street.Mr Haese said there also were seven council sites including libraries, community centres and the aquatic centre where recharge points were offered.The International Day of People with Disability is being marked in Adelaide with an exhibition at the city library about what the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities means to people.There are videos celebrating the day being shown on the big screen outside City Cross.The Rundle Lantern screen will also be lit orange and blue in recognition of the international day.

Good idea but I wonder how long it takes the batteries to recharge. I have visions of people just sitting there for a couple of hours in a plugged-in gofer.

 

One thing I did notice from the map link - since when has the central part of Vic Square been called Reconciliation Plaza?
