  ADELAIDE Airport will begin work on a major terminal expansion, a 250-room hotel and an office complex within five years after the Federal Government approved $1 billion of investment.
   
  Adelaide Airport managing director Mark Young said planning for the three key projects would be progressed this year, with construction expected in the next two to five years.
  “Terminal expansion is something that is required,” he said.
  “We’ll do eight million passengers this year and the original terminal design was for something a little bit less than that.”

  “We are down to final detailed designs for the terminal expansion and will be commencing stakeholder negotiations very shortly.”
  “For the hotel we believe the time is right — we’ll be putting it to market during the course of the year — looking for a developer and operator.”
  The Government yesterday signed off on a 30-year masterplan for the airport, which forecasts $1bn to be spent in the next five years on major projects, including an expansion of the southern end of the main terminal.

  The master plan — a document produced every five years to guide airport development — forecasts an annual 3 per cent increase in aircraft movements over 20 years.
  Other infrastructure projects planned for the next five years include an expansion of the international arrivals hall, additional international arrival gates, an expansion of the main security check point and more retail space and airline lounges.
  In the longer term, a light rail corridor has been mooted, allowing for a possible future tram link to the city.

  Annual passenger numbers are forecast to increase from 807,000 in 2013 to 2.81 million in 2034 for international flights, and from 6.1 million in 2014 to 14.1 million by 2034 for domestic flights.
  However, there are no proposals to change the 11pm-6am curfew.
  The master plan forms the part of the Airport’s 30-year vision which was released in October and includes a plan to triple the number of domestic and international terminal aerobridges by 2044, accommodating new-generation aircraft including the A380 and Dreamliner.

  “The approval of our master plan allows us to plan and commit to appropriate levels of infrastructure to stay ahead of our growth and maintain our reputation as one of Australia’s most modern airports,” Mr Young said.
  “We’re confident we can bring our 30-year vision to life within the framework put in place by the master plan.”
  Adelaide Airport is the state’s largest employer at a single site.
  About 8500 people work within the airport precinct, and there are a further estimated 9000 jobs across the state associated with airport activity — a total of 17,500 jobs.
  Mr Young expects this to grow to 37,500 jobs within the 20-year forecast.

This reminds me of the fictional Australian TV series Utopia!!

Love that series! Bridge to Tasmania! Honestly, it's like were I work (well, for the next three weeks anyway) - so much fluff and jargon, I think that's why I find it so disturbingly funny.

Not too sure when it's going to start or the completion date? The airport seems to have a series of 5 year plans.

It is going to happen though...just like the expressway, oval, and Royal Adelaide hospital....

The Federal Government has ticked the ‘yes’ box on the Adelaide Airport’s 2014 Master Plan, which will allow the airport to plan for growth, jobs creation, and sustainable economic development.

The Master Plan, in conjunction with the airport’s 30-Year Vision announced last October, will get the ball rolling for significant infrastructure investment, which includes terminal expansion, and new facilities like the Airport Business District, complete with industry clusters.

Managing director Mark Young said the major pieces were now in place for Adelaide Airport to morph into a top tier airport business centre in the Asia Pacific region.

“Since privatisation in 1998, we’ve doubled the number of passengers and more than quadrupled the number of international passengers,” Young said.

“We’ve also invested more than $500 million in infrastructure and facilitated a further $350 million in the past 10 years alone.”

Following a period of being Australia’s fastest growing capital city airport, passenger numbers for Adelaide are set to top the eight million mark this year for the first time.

The airport is also South Australia’s largest single site employment precinct, contributing 2.1% to the Gross State Product, or a hefty $1.9 billion.

“Based on what we’ve been able to achieve in little more than 15 years, we’re confident we can bring our 30-year Vision to life within the framework put in place by the Master Plan,” Young said.

Over the next five years, the Master Plan hopes to add $1 billion to on-airport investment, while creating a further 3500 new jobs, capping employment at more than 12,000.

The airport will also continue to welcome more airlines and cater for more flights to more destinations, both in and out of the country.

Other potential projects for the future include a hotel, expansion of the southern end of the main terminal, expansion of the international arrivals hall, additional international arrival gates, a larger main security check point, and more retail and airline lounge spaces.

Looking at the bigger picture of the 30-Year Vision, Adelaide Airport is set to see a tripling of its domestic and international terminal aerobridges by 2044, making way for the A380’s and Dreamliners to visit.

The new Airport Business District will embody a next-generation hub, with designated industry clusters such as mining and resources, freight and logistics, technology, office and warehousing, and healthcare.

“As a major economic and employment generator, the growth of Adelaide Airport is inextricably linked to the development of South Australia,” Young said.

“The approval of our Master Plan allows us to plan and commit to appropriate levels of infrastructure to stay ahead of this growth and maintain our reputation as one of Australia’s most modern airports.

“With this growth comes the responsibility to ensure any airport development is compatible with surrounding land uses and considerations of the community and stakeholders. The Master Plan is just one part of our ongoing consultation with the community.”

Us too, it is so funny and on the money, so glad they are making another series. My OH was sat in a meeting last year and sent me a text saying "it's like Utopia" ha ha. A colleague who loves the show said to one of the bosses something along the lines of "it needs a push, we should make an announcement, lets move onto stage 2" ha ha, the boss had no idea they were taking the p*ss!!!!
