South Australia’s roads and regions are gearing up for the Santos Tour Down Under and in 2016 there is an even greater focus on family fun and participation. For the first time parents and children of any age can ride together in the Bupa Family Ride on Sunday 17 January. It will take place on the People’s Choice Classic circuit around Rymill Park from 1pm. The Bupa Mini Tour for Kids returns this year, but it’s not only about the action on track. There are street parties every night of the event and the Santos Festival of Cycling includes the Team Presentation and concert with ARIA award winner Jessica Mauboy on Saturday 16 January, the Subaru Tour Parade before each stage and Family Day on Sunday 24 January. Family Day at Elder Park incorporates activities, workshops, food trucks and more between 8am and 3pm. For more information visit www.tourdownunder.com.au.[/TD]

The opening of the Tour Down Under village is this Saturday. The village is open at 3pm and the womens team presentation at 5:30pm and the men's at 6:15pm followed by Jessica Mauboy performing after (last year Sheppard played for about 45-50 mins and it was a belter so hoping she does a good job this year).

Weather isn't looking too hot for the day so if interested to see what its all about pop along. Tram stops right outside the venue so could always park a bit further out if you wanted and tram it the rest of the way in. If you get there soon after it opens you stand a good chance of getting the TDU freebies they give out to everyone who wants them. After about 4pm most of the backpacks and stuff are gone but other freebies are still to be found. We have some cool bits and pieces from the last few years.

Keep in mind food and drink bought inside the tour village can be pricey. We have always tended to take our own picnic and drinks and just get something extra if we need it.
