|We are delighted to announce that international visitors’ expenditure in South Australia has reached an all-time high according to latest International Visitor Survey (IVS) results released today. |
- Expenditure in South Australia is up 26 per cent, climbing to a record $897 million and surpassing the national growth rate of 19 per cent.
- There has been a growth of 14 per cent in visitor nights to 9.8 million and a growth of 9.6 per cent in international visits reaching a record high of 408,000. These growth rates both exceed the national rates of 11 and 7.9 per cent respectively.
- Leisure visits to SA have also reached the highest level on record at 338,000 with expenditure increasing by 19 per cent.
- Good growth has been registered from our key international markets including Europe, the United Kingdom, Asia, North America and New Zealand.
These results are testament to the importance of the tourism industry for our state and the economy. International visitors are critical to the State’s economic growth and to achieving our goal of an $8 billion tourism industry by 2020. The SATC is focussed on driving international visitation and expenditure to our state through a variety of key strategic marketing projects in our key international markets.
The 2015/16 State Budget committed $14 million to grow tourism opportunities in our key international markets, and we are committed to the vision of making South Australia a destination of choice for international visitors to help grow visitation and expenditure.
