Just to say...

My son who's 12 years, is suffering from headaches at school.

I took him to the doctors for a check up, the doctor thinks its Migraine.

But he wants to rule out things first.

So he has had a ct scan, blood tests and urine samples. WOW

Can you see this happening in the UK.

"COME BACK IF ITS NOT GONE IN 2 WEEKS"

lol

I am abit worried about the results of the scan though, I hope alls well.

Wow - am very impressed.

I'm sure it will be something simple. My daughter is the same age and going through the same thing. She had all those things done in England but it took over 6 months to be done and a week in hospital to get it! It turned out to be hormonal.

It could also be his eyes, at around puberty the eye grows and the shape changes, which is why a lot of kids become short sighted at this time. It is also around the time that school work picks up and if there is a lot of copying from the board, this involves a lot of nerves and muscles in the eye in refocusing from the board to the page and back. Some kids have sluggishness in this area and the extra work their eyes have to do can give them head aches. It would be worth taking him to a developmental optician that specialises in children, initial consultation will be covered by medicare. There is one at Marion, but can't remember where. She works in an opticians there.

If you could find out which one it might be worth me taking my daughter there - just to be on the safe side. We took her back in the uk but the optician said there was no problem.

Much appreciated,

Nick

Thanx for taking the time to find out

Funnily enough I got speaking to my doctor today about this as I went in to get my daughters prescription. She said hers was definately hormonal but to keep a diary of when she gets the migrains and come back to her in a months time. It may be linked to time of month etc.

I went to the docs with "lady things" had a scan that afternoon!!!! Brill service, cant see that happening in the UK! I have a friend in the UK with an 11 yr old who has 7 fits since june, she is still waiting for a MRI in NOVEMBER!!! When I mentioned that to my doc she said that child has a brain tumor until proven other wise! Here they presume the worst and eliminate it first. What a way to go!?

Up date on Zac,

When we lived in England Zac had a thorn stuck in his foot.

The next day a rash appeared on his leg deep purple blood spots that look like Meningitus rash.

It turned out to be Henoch-Scholein Purpura

H S P for short.

It looks like its back.

Zac's urine test showed blood in. (kidneys)

He will be tested again in 2 weeks

The C T scan was all clear thank Goodness, but I am now concerned about his kidneys.

The DR is'nt overly concerned but needs to keep an eye on him.

The headaches and stomach cramps are the symptoms of H S P

The doctor has prescibed migraine tabs for Zac.

We'll just see how he goes.
