Have you checked that your ETA visa does not knock out your resident visa ???
So far as i understood it through somewhere i was reading that you cannot be on a ETA when you get your resident visa else the ETA cancles it out.
I wonder if anyone else could shed some light on this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Dunno if it's right for the residency visas, Matt;
immigration have told me i can go on an ETA whilst waiting for the 457 sponsored visa, which can be verified on-shore!!
So THAT is exactly what we are doing; meet you on the 18th for a beer???:)
Good to get some elses info on this.
Probally be in the Irish Bar on King william st on the 18-11-08 be good to meet up for a beer of many :)
Good on ya! We will be there.......be prepared for a good ol' fashioned northern knees-up
Good luck to all of you!
Glad things have changed in time for you to be able to do it this way Used to be like Cornish says. I was on an ETA for two years - back in May I didn't want to be out of Oz for too long whilst applying for my spousal visa so thought of doing this myself - however was advised that I had to be OFFSHORE when the visa was GRANTED and again to re-enter Oz to activate. I also would have had to wait for a case officer on my spousal visa before I could ask permission to request another ETA in the meantime. Then I looked at the cost of flying to NZ and accommodation so decided it wouldn't cost much more to fly back to the UK - glad I did as the spousal visa took longer than they said so we actually saved in the end as staying with family saved on accommodation costs.
Saying that though I spent it on the cheap clothing and other items in the end back in the UK (I've still got some items for people that I haven't passed on yet as been busy job hunting and applying for 887):embarrassed:

Just wanted to say Good luck, it takes balls of steel to do what your doing especially with young children in tow. Hope that you have brought enough money over to support yourselves. I wouldnt do it myself not without having a visa, however people thought we were nuts to come over without having done a reccie first, but at least we had our visas, a substancial amount of money and an address for the 1st 7 weeks.
To anyone else please think long and had before taking the plunge like this!!!
Hi Gill and Family
Don't know whether you remember me but we met at the meeting in Jan 08 at mascrat manor (long time ago) Just wanted to wish you a safe journey to Adelaide and good luck for the future. Hopefully we will meet again one day in Adelaide. We are still waiting for our visa - applied in Jan 08 not even been for medicals yet. We were hoping to be over there in November this year but by the looks of things it might be November 09.

I know that when we got our visa through in July the agent told us not to use an ETA visa as it would cancel our temporary resident visa, I thought this was only to validate though but could be wrong
