Can't concentrate at work

Guest Lisado

Dear all

Is it just me or has anyone else lost all concentration at work here in the UK. I feel like I have handed in my notice and just waiting for my last day to come :biglaugh: however, in reality I have no idea when my last day will come, having just filed our visa application.

I just can't get motivated and I am so bored (even though I have a pile of work to do )

I keep checking on this forum and my emails when I know I shouldn't be doing that at work.:skeptical:

Anyone out there feel the same????????????

I just want to pack up my house and go, NOW!!!!! :jiggy::jiggy:

You need a job like mine Lisa, I sit at home on my sofa all day flitting inbetween PIA, facebook and work. Even with such an easy life I still cant wait to jack it all in, once you know you are going you just cant wait to get there!

January really is a depressing month in the UK so, its so grey all the time, I have no motivation to do anything but look at houses on realestate.com

So that's why the website is so slow these days !!!:biglaugh:

My other favourites are www.xe.com (to see how much the value of the pound is plummeting:arghh:) and www.domain.com.au. I find it's quicker than realestate, and it takes you straight into Streetview which is great, but it doesn't seem to have so many properties on there. Should do some housework I suppose.....

Hi, I handed my notice in last week and what a good feeling, just can't wait to go now. Feel a little guilty at times as friends and family keep saying that they expected us to change our minds and not go. Sorry, never an option, I decided before I applied for my job. Less than 7 weeks to go and only 7 shifts left at work due to holidays and time owing.:):):)

If you go into the Property Report section (on domain.com.au), you can enter a suburb in Suburb Profile and it gives you lots of interesting demographic stuff like house prices, age distribution (it is full of pensioners or kids?), country of origin, marital status etc etc which gives you an idea of what kind of people live there, compared with the average for Adelaide as a whole.

All interesting stuff!! Hope the website doesn't slow down too much now! :biglaugh:

YES! I'm the exact same! Especially since I heard they hope to have 475's a case officer by 13th Feb! I sit at work counting hours until Feb 13th, even tho I am very doubtful they'll manage it!

AND I'M RACKED WITH GUILT! I had to lie to colleagues who asked me what I was up to Monday (medical) and why I had lost so much weight (for my medical). I'm not sure I can do this anymore, but at the same time no point in telling people until the visa is in my hands! I'd probably jinx it! I have gone mad!

Where did you live when you were in Adelaide Anne? Do you think you will go back or is it not a decision you are making any time soon? I dont suppose there is any rush really???

I was really bad today. Everytime my boss went out the library, I was madly bringing up Poms on my PC and then trying to close it down again when she came in - had a panic in case she saw all the smileys on the screen ;)

I think since we have sent in our final visa docs (I hope anyway) I am just restless - fingers crossed for 13 feb (and its a Friday:wideeyed:)

Tomorrow I must do some work (and stamp some books - not!!! :D)

Hi Denise,

We rented in Glenelg (both north and south) and also house-sat for 2 lots of friends in Semaphore and Payneham. My husband was brought up in the Seaton/Grange area and ideally we would move back to Grange/Henley/West lakes area (but they have got so expensive). It's where the in-laws are and my husband knows so many people there through Grange Surf Club. If it wasn't for the housing market we would probably be there by now as we went over last Easter and came back saying we were going to make the move for definate. But I suppose we have just been put off, not sure if we will sell the house and a bit worried on the job front. We thought we would wait and see what happens with the housing market but it just seems to go from bad to worse!!:arghh: However I feel in limbo because I know we are not going to be here too much longer. We really want to be there before our eldest starts secondary school, so we have just over 18 months to make the move. I see you are not going till June, sounds like ages but will probably go really quick. I reckon Adelaide house prices will have started dropping a bit more by then so it might be good timing. Good luck. What areas are you looking at ?

Hi Mandy,

I feel the same as you, i finished work on Monday morning and have so much too do before we go... 11 days to go. I really can't be bother, keep shopping and thinking " I'll wait for Darren to finish work Friday" before i start doing anything.. Darren's brother coming over form America for the week before we go and his mum thinks we gonna be spending all week with them, doesn't seem to realise that we have a whole life to sort out and a house to get ready for renting!!!!!

Keep smiling and i'm sure it will be worth it...

3 days at work left for me. Late tomorrow, night Monday and night Wednesday. All my time is spent either on PIA, FB, realestate or domain. Night shifts are the worst as have more time to spare but tomorrow i'll be rushed of my feet so doubt i'll get a chance on the internet. I think it's only natural to lose interest at work, lets just say i think we all have more important things on our minds.

When we were in the process to emigrate (we have been in Australia nearly 2 years now) I told my employers and they appeared to be supportive of me, my manager even started telling me how she was looking into going to NZ with her family and then they sacked me for 'not being commited to the organisation' and escorted me out of the building!! They did it 2 weeks before I had 1 years service so I could make a claim against them, so there was nothing I could do.

Needless to say I learnt my lesson and the next job I got I said nothing until I resigned and they were not happy, but at that point we had still not got in and I had a mortgage to pay and ended up working there for 8 months, so could not sit unemployed for 8 months.

On the other hand my partners workplace could not have been more supportive and wrote references etc and he still keeps in touch with them and went back to see them in September when we went back for my brothers wedding.

I have recently been forced to resign from my position in Adelaide as my Grandma died suddenly and I asked for 7 days off work to go back for the UK for the funeral and they refused saying it was not a good time! My manager said to me "your Grandma's dead, you've had time with her, going back for the funeral won't change anything", so I resigned and went back for the funeral to be with my family. Who wants to work with people like that. I think I am jinxed, but hopefully I will get another job soon.

Hi DeNLyN,

Jo's OH here, yes Jo is a nurse and went thru OGP for her interview, the extra info DIAC wanted from us was my Discharge Certificate after 22 years in the Army. Probably to make sure I wasn't deserting!!!!!!, Once they received it, it only took 3 weeks to get the Visa Grant. Keep your chin up they must be working their way thru them now, so expect that email any time! Good Luck

Steve
