Jade Goody

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd post this as you might not get this news over in Oz. Basically Jade Goody has been diagnosed with cervical cancer and has now been told it is terminal and she only has months to live. She is only 27 and has 2 children, so love her or hate her, it is a very tragic story.

Just makes you realise how you never know what is round the corner and how you have to grab every opportunity you can.

Hi Anne,

Yes, I have been following the Jade story online and feel so sorry for her. It is a tragedy as she is so young with two sons. My daughter Esther had aggressive stage 3 breast cancer two years ago at 28 and it has been a nightmare. She is in remission now and doing really well, but the whole thing is so scary. God bless anyone who is touched by this terrible disease and let's hope they find a cure very soon. Sadly, it is becoming far too common and people seem to get it younger these days - we met a girl in the waiting room who had breast cancer at 13!

Poor Jade, let's hope for a miracle for her.

I hope your daughter keeps well Cazzie

I have also been following about Jade - not my fav person but my heart goes out to her - so young and 2 young children - its awful.

My MIL had breast cancer / stomach cancer / lymph cancer - so many bits removed but she is still going strong - she is amazing.

Lisa,

Thanks for your good wishes. My daughter is on Tamoxifen for the next few years and has just finished Herceptin. She does not know if she can have children now but obviously the most important thing is that she is well. She is back to work full time and is actually very well now. Losing all of her hair was horrible, but she has a lovely short bob now and is a very beautiful girl.

Your Mother in Law gives us all hope - I love to hear stories where people have defied the odds and somehow kept going. Let's hope that Jade can find the strength to keep fighting. What I find scary about cancer is that it can grow for years and we can be totally unaware of it. My daughter went to the doctors on the same day that she found the lump - thank God, but to be a lump, those cells were multiplying for years. Horrible disease and yes, God bless anyone who is suffering.

Yes I have been following her story - I was crying last night reading her interview in the news of the world it is just unimaginable. So sad that she just wants to live now to bring up her boys the way she sees fit and it doesnt look like this is possible is just horrific - I have 2 young boys also and cannot imagine the sadness and fear and anger she must be feeling It makes me so sad.

Back in the UK I took part in the race for life to raise money for cancer research - does anyone know if theres anything like that here? I would get involved if there was.

Its very tragic news about Jade Goody. Sadly cervical cancer can be very agressive if not detected earlier. Thats why its important for all women who are sexually active to have regular smear tests. Please dont think it will be any different in aus, you can make an appointment for a pap smear with your GP. Yes its uncomfy but it could just save your life!! I have nursed a couple of ladies with agressive cervical cancer and one of my friends back in the uk her partner has it too.

Just makes you think that cancer is such a random disease and doesnt spare celebrity age or status. :(

I was a breast care nurse specialist back in the UK and was also a sister of a Gynae oncology ward. Cervical cancer can be agressive and i would urge people to get there daughters vaccinated for the virus.

Many outstanding women survive breast cancer even grade 3. Age and being a woman are the biggest risk factors unfortunatley we can do nothing about that. Having a general body awareness is the best thing. If you think something is wrong get it checked. You know your body better than anyone if the GP dismisses you keep going back or change GP's.

I've been sat here for 15 minutes, biting my tongue, but the pain is just too great.

If you want tragic, spend a few minutes in a cancer ward - full of GOOD people who, in most cases, have done nothing to deserve having their life cut short. Yes, I feel awful for Goody's children but I'm drawing the line there.

Completely understand where your coming from having worked at Christies hospital in Manchester for 2 years. However if it means raising awareness of the disease then i am all for publising about J Goodies plight. No-one deserves to have their life cut short, i understand what your getting at., but i dont fully agree

I lost my mum to stomach cancer when she was 45, I was 22 and my young sister 14, the pain of watching her die and not having her at times in my life like getting married and when my kids where born is a pain I would not wish on my worst enemy. My heart goes out to anyone with cancer and I don't think any of us can decide if someone is GOOD enough to be spared it

I think you misunderstood me; I'm not suggesting Goody is a bad person - I don't know her, so cannot make that judgement. I'm sure your mother was a good person, as was my father, but Goody has spent the past 5-10 years forcing herself into the spotlight and now has all the media attention she could have ever dreamed of.

The fact that her plight serves to hit home the message that cancer can be detected and even cured, if checked, is fantastic; that big mouth has finally found a captive audience.

Hi my mum is suffering from terminal uterian cancer. It has spread all over her body and on Saturday I thought I was saying goodbye to her for the last time. But she is a fighter and when I saw her yesterday she was sitting up in bed doing a crossword. She is on oxygen permanently and has quite a lot of pain.

We have our visa but will not use it until the inevitable happens.

I feel sorry for Jade, but feel angry that she has has better care than my mum. Not through want of trying on my part!

Sorry for the downer, can't wait to start over in Aus hopefully in October.

I think it is amazing that people can be negative about Jade Goody, especially considering the circumstances...

At the end of the day she is a not too bright, vulnerable girl who was demonised by BB. Yes, she has made a fortune and will continue to make a fortune until she dies - probably on TV. So what? I'm sure Jade has learned many of life's lesson from her naivety and crassness, but unlike most of us she has done it publicly. I didn't rate her much when she first hit the screens but I thought she was always a vulnerable and therefore easily exploited girl.

As you say, this publicity has a positive effect - young girls who do identify with Jade may well be having themselves checked out earlier.

Jade has stage 4 cancer and will die soon - a young life cut short. Two boys will be left motherless at a very young age. Her mother will lose a daughter - a tragedy in anyone's book I would have thought.

As for the level of care, I agree, everone should receive the highest level of care, regardless.

Jade has had a captive audience for many years. Otherwise she would not of made a living!!

This has brought her happiness, she has got to meet and do things she would not of experienced otherwise.

Jade had a poor up bringing and may be she used the press as a form of emotion and acceptance.

Using the term " that big mouth has finallty found a captive audience" is not nice.

No one deserves to leave there kids when they are so young.

The woman is trying to make sure her children will be well looked after. This is what any parent would want. To make sure there children are cared for and happy.

Not everyone will agree with Jade behaviour in the past or now.

But as adults you should be mature enough to disagree and not insulting someone who is dying.

Has anyone seen "Jade - The Next Chapter" on Living TV? I watched it and saw a completely different side to her. She's very kind and down to earth. Very friendly. I feel really terrible that this is happening to her :(

I seem to have started off quite a debate with this post!

I just wasn't sure if it would make it to the news in Oz, and although I am no great fan of Jade's, (I don't even watch Big Brother), it is a very sad story and really makes you realise that cancer can hit anyone at anytime. I did see her once, at McDonalds of all places, just having lunch along with the rest of us, and she was really nice to the

people who asked her for her autograph.

Obviously quite a few of us on here have had to face cancer, with loved ones. My Mum died from lymphoma (cancer of the lymph glands) a couple of years ago and it was such a horrible experience. It's difficult to get the images out of my head of how she looked just before she died. I try to remember her how she was when she was healthy. My heart goes out to anyone having to go through that at the moment, regardless of who they are or how 'good' they are.

I don’t think our opinions count if she's a good or bad person; she has chosen to live her life through the media and has brought this killer disease to light. Whatever she has done in the past should stay there.

Living the rest of her life on TV might just save 1 girl (if not more) from dying, one more family from losing a loved one then this helps.

Unfortunately the ordinary Joe Blogs, sitting in the Oncology units having treatment won’t be contacted by the media it’s just not the done thing, but if it’s happening to a celebrity then it is, which is not a bad thing when it can help prevention.

I lost my mam when I was 27 weeks pregnant she fought cancer for 21 years but couldn’t fight any longer, losing her at 26yrs old was hard its unimaginable how hard it will be for those 2 young boys.

And as for those ‘GOOD’ people sitting in Cancer Ward’s – trust me on this one I have sat in many of cancer ward’s and some people aren’t that good those who are handcuffed to prison guards.

I don’t want to offend anyone and I believe in freedom of speech, but sometimes you have to step out of the box and think of a wider aspect.

Can't see the arguement here:confused:

She has found a way to make money, a lot of money. In fact more money than I will ever see in my lifetime. Good luck to her. If you didn't want to see her on tv you have an 'off button' or you could change channels. If you don't want to read about her in magazines leave them on the shelf. If someone said I could go on tv and make a fortune I would be there. So what? I can't say I'm a fan of hers or even know much about her. She obvioisly had a product to sell and people bought it. Good for her. Its an awful shame she won't be around to enjoy the life she has set up.

You can argue all you like about who deserves money and who doesn't. There are 5 totally talentless people (oh okay one could sing) that hit the bigtime and made a fortune. So what? I don't think they deserved it but they found a way to make money so happy days for them. For me the world would have been a better place without 'girl power' The one thing I do know is no one deserves to have their life taken away from them at such a ridiculously young age.:(
