A suggestion/idea re: advertising

So I know we have super strict guidelines on this forum in regards to advertising. Is there any possibility of opening up a section just for advertising, and having members who want to advertise pay a yearly fee for doing so? That way everything is in one place, and it would actually be helpful to the members as well.

Just a thought...

Good ides Suzer !! Actually I have been thinking also of an idea ! I dont have the ability myself but..how about some bright spark making a small magazine that can provide interesting information on the sort of stuff us brits want to heare and know and also to sell advertising in for british people with australian businesses. Not that I dont think we should use Australians as they are great and I love them ! but when we lived in Cyprus for a a year there was a mag that you couldpick up from shop counters, etc and it was free. The advertising supported it and you could even make money aout of it. It could have all the sort of info that new and old British immigrants would like. Hints and tips and web sites etc.

Its an idea some enterprising person out there may like to take up !!

Funnily enough Judy and I were talking about this just the other day. One of the things we do for our Home2Home clients is help find accommodation for them, and because of this we chat to a few helpful agents who specialise in furnished and short term lets. Often they tell us about places they have available, but the dates and locations don't necessarily tie up with our clients' needs, so we were wondering how to help our friendly agents, and help people coming over, by putting details of their places up on the forum, but obviously this could be considered advertising in some form so we couldn't do it. So often we see people posting on this and other forums about the difficulty they find getting somewhere to stay in to start with, and we know there is a very wide range of prices - often over $1000 for a week - If we hear of something good for a fraction of that price, it would be nice to be able to let people know about it, without having to PM each poster individually.

How about it Mods?

You best pm Tim direct about any form of advertising.

Have to be careful as without some form of control it becomes a free for all, then the spam becomes more of a problem. At present there a lot of posters with "simple advertising" to forum guidlines and even now it gets abused.

At the end of the day final say so comes from Tim not us mere mods so suggest try speaking to him.

Sarah and I are magazine publishers with about 30 years experience in the industry. We're migrating to Adelaide on April 26.

We've been investigating opportunities in SA and I'm interested in exploring a concept focusing on an immigrant readership. We all have fairly similar wants and needs from Australia and I agree with everything everyone has said in this post so far.

Drop me a PM if you have any more thoughts about what could make a great read for expats, in terms of features and services offered. Would love to hear from you.

This is a great idea. Where i live now, we have a local A5 size mag with all sorts of advertising in it. It is a huge success for those who advertise as i have used it many times myself. Perhaps you could even stretch to posting it out to potential Expats (for a charge of course) who are looking for all sorts of info like accom, hire cars, furniture etc before they arrive. I for one would find it useful.
