depending what trade you are in especially or who you know if you can get a job without converting, but they like the australian qualifications here.

When i was looking for work I was requested by one place to get my qualifications transferred to oz ones at a cost of $450+ but got a job at another salon who liked the fact that i was uk trained and didnt even mention about getting ammended certificates. A friend who is gas fitter were told that they had to do a 4year apprenticeship for lesser job he had been working for 20 years at. its taken him 17 months but has a gas job now and being sent on a shorter course to get some ozzie recognised qualifications that are old in uk apparently.And electricians have had to do a 6month course, although whilst working, to get thier full licence.Noone knows why It seems thats the way they do it here.
