Over 50s and longterm unemployment

There is a very depressing article in the daily mail this morning stating that the over 50 age group has been worse effected by the UK recession and that they potentially face years of long term unemployment. The figures have apparently gone up in that age group by 50% in the last twelve months.

I have several friends in their mid to late forties who are due to go to Oz in the next few months, just wandered if people in that age group have found it difficult securing employment,or anyone in a recruitment position notice that age discrimation is widespread in the Adelaide market.
