I could be completely wrong here, but I think that when changing countries, (whether you've been living there or on holiday), you can claim back the import/sales tax you paid to the country you are leaving for anything you bought in the last year. Those belongings would then be subject to import tax in the country you are going to (and will need to be declared at customs, unless it falls in the personal duty/tax free allowance for that country).
