Hi all,

Whilst going to fetch the washing in i happen to stumble upon this little spider that was busy spinning its web at the top of the drying line/rack.

Just wondered if anyone could shed anylight as to what it is as it has a very prominate stripe but its not red.

Also picture two shows a "funnel web" which was taken at a local beach any clues as to what weaved it?

Red-back Spider Latrodectus hasseltii

Spider of Victoria series

Identification

The female Red-back Spider is easily recognised because of her distinctive body colours and shape. The body has a characteristically pea-shaped abdomen and the legs are long and slender. The upper side of the abdomen usually has a broad red stripe, while the underneath always has an hourglass-shaped red mark. Juvenile females have white markings on the abdomen. The female’s body is about 10 mm long, excluding the legs.

Doesn't look like a redback - more like a whitestripe!!

See the pics of the redback I found in our shed with a dead mouse in its web

Wow, nice pics, however after doing a google search for a white stripe spider, it doesnt come up with anything.

it does however show a redback with a white stripe and various articles do say that some male and young female redbacks can have a white stripe.

Not a red back mate, they are much nicer looking than that.

There are a few spiders that make a funnel type web around the garden.

Saw the web at a local beach and never saw a web like it before, i was just curious as to what spider would weave a web like it
