Mylor Fireworks

Diane

Recommended Posts

Just been told by my friend that the Mylor Fireworks are on Saturday 18th June this year.

Closest thing to Guy Fawkes night they do here - hot soup, big bonfire, great fireworks, mulled wine, toasted marshmallows... Excuse to get your hats, gloves and scarves out!

It's held on the field opposite Mylor Primary School.

Oh yes, just turn up, park along the road somewhere, grab your own stick and marshmallow and stick it in the roaring fire (if you can get close enough without your eyebrows being burnt off)! You pay a nominal amount for entry as you go in - can't remember how much but think it's maximum around $10 for a whole family.

They have the ubiquitous bbq going, plus homemade hot soup for sale, and glow sticks and stuff (it's a major fundraiser for Mylor Primary School), they have music (sometimes not very good music it has to be said) playing, and sweet stalls and beer/wine/mulled wine for sale (we always take a couple of flasks with us - one with alcohol in it, one without - you can buy non alcoholic red wine to make it with in supermarkets) and then around 7 o'clock (I think - will try to check the time and post up if different) they have a huge firework display.

Have always found everyone there really friendly and lovely. Just be warned that there is no fence around the fire - so keep hold of small kids!

Thanks Diane, hope to see you there as we're planning on taking the kids. I get the impression it's quite a big event - where's the best place to park, or is there anywhere to park??

I'll find out for you Dan - when is the winter solstice? Usually the closest weekend to that

Apparently the solstice is 21st June which is a Thursday so I reckon pencil in 23rd - my friend hasn't seen any posters advertising it yet this year, but I reckon it will definitely be on - it's an institution!!
