It's just awful to think that you never know what the future holds- we are ok... for now but I can tell people won't get out en masse for a shopping spree just yet

The RBA have actually done a good job - they've got everybody scared about future rate hikes and acting as if they've gone up (so hopefully dampening inflationary activity) - without actually putting the interest rates up! Very clever.
