A lot of it seems to be thrill seeking on the part of the 'feral youths' who are rioting. Something exciting and dangerous to do in the school holidays when you don't have to worry about getting up the next day. I feel there is a generation of kids/teenagers out there, who haven't got good role models in their own parents, who have been totally desensitized to violence through video games and violent movies, who have probably had sex/drunk alcohol/taken drugs from an early age, who are looking for some excitement, something different. Combined with massive peer pressure to be one of the 'mob', be cool etc etc. I don't know what the solution is, but I am not surprised - the seeds of this problem were planted many years ago and the British government have got to do some serious thinking and give the police back some power so that the silent majority of good law abiding citizens are properly protected.
