Nice food in the Barossa?

Hi there

 

Might head up to the Barossa tomorrow with the family.

 

Anyone know any nice winaries that do nice food? - we've got young kids that aren't fussy.

 

My recommendation for McLaren Vale is Settlement Wines, seriously nice oven pizzas and cold platters - gorgeous wine, but nowhere "dedicated" for the kids to play.

 

Anyone got any gems in the Barossa..?

Can't think of any food gems - but please please go to Yelland & Paps on Nuraip Road - tiny family run winery - they have a cute little tasting room - fabulous wine (beautiful grenaches) and a big garden where the kids could run around where you sip. Also, Artisans is great - a tasting place with 7 (I think) small wineries represented there so you get to try a range from small producers that don't have their own cellar doors. And yes - agreed on Settlement for pizza, beautiful views etc in McLaren Vale - their muscat is so good too!

Wasn't after anything special - just somewhere nice and simple to get a pizza or some nibbles etc...... I like burgers. Mmmmmmmmmm, burgers.

Whistler Wines does good platters or you could try Blonde Cafe in Angaston thats nice casual and great food. If you go early enough there is the farmers market on in Angaston too I think. Otherwise, another casual lunch stop with great views is the Old Angaston Food Store just on the way out of town. Tanunda does a couple of nice eateries - but why eat all that grease in a burger when barossa is full of great, local grown food. Hope you have a great day.

Roaring 40's Cafe on the main street in Angaston do fantastic pizza's. Blonde Cafe at Angaston is also very good. Maggie Beers Pheasant Farm cafe/shop off Seppeltsfield Road is also very popular, good food, you can sit indoors or out on the lawn by the dam, there are cooking demonstrations and birds for the kids to look at.

Another idea for the kids - if you're not too late driving home - is to travel via the Whispering Wall reservoir off the Willamstown Road. The area is managed by SA Water and I think they lock the gate at 5:00pm

Hi - stopped by the whispering wall - had it to ourselves - BRILLIANT TIP !

 

For those curious - it's a dam that 'transmits' sound, so you can stand on one side and whisper to someone on the other side, 140m away - VERY COOL!

We ate at Whistlers - great platter for $30.... Great little spot for the kids to play, too.

 

We also stopped by the Jacobs Creek plant, not bowled over by the wines but the visitor center is worth a look, deffo.
