For freebies Avast is a pretty good one.
We use avg, not had any issues with it and it's free too, it got suggested we tried it from someone back in the uk.

Another vote here for either avast or avg, I like the scan avg does on USB sticks etc each time they are plugged in

I used this Av for years,tested nearly to destruction.
Don't forget to remove any trace of you old Av or it may clash.

Avast. Have been using it for years. Combined with a good firewall it's all you need.
The best protection against viruses is to run Apple, Ubuntu or Linux.
