Hunger Games/Girl with Dragon Tattoo/Twighlight/Stephanie Plum Series

I have read all the above series and loved them BUT now I am bored as I have nothing to read. Any suggestions of good novels out there? Dont like lovey dovey stuff, and dont really fancy that shades of grey type either. Do like crime/mysteries but have read most of the usual suspects (Ed McBain, Lee Childs, James Patterson etc etc)

I know that this is an older series of books, but, if you like supernatural and crime stories check out the Odd Thomas novels by Dean Koontz.

I absolutely loved them.

 

Also try Sheila Quigley, she's a crime writer from Northumberland (I think) and her characters are well written.

Hae you tried Harlen Coben or Lisa Unger? I like both of them, also Jonathan or Faye Kellerman. If you like the Stephanie Plum series have a look at Joanna Fluke's Hannah Swensen series too.

For Sci Fi look at work by Larry Niven or Ian M Banks, Ian also goes under Ian Banks for his horror stuff. Gripping reading!

I liked Stephanie Plum at the start of the series, but now (16th? 17th?) they're starting to annoy me! If you like Lee Child, Stephen Leather is fairly similar. Try some of the J D Robb books - this is a pen name for Nora Roberts who writes romances, but the J D Robb ones are not as syrupy, sort of futuristic crime with well constructed characters. Also give Robin Hobb's books a go - she has written several trilogies and they are well written and enjoyable to read. Laurell K Hamilton's early books were good, although now the heroine (Anita Blake I think) has degenerated into a porn star so stuick to the early stuff! Couldn't bring myself to even try the 50 Shades of Grey books after reading the amazon.com reviews (which are great reading in and of themselves!) I think reading a book that badly written would have me throwing my Kindle at the wall within a few pages! Charlaine Harris' recent series (she wrote the original books that the True Blood series was based on btw) are quite good - Grave Sight is one of them, I think there were three in the series, and I like Jeaniene Frost and Keri Arthur. Let me know if you want to borrow any! Oh and Fiona McIntosh is a local author who I have read and enjoyed.

I'm reading Fifty Shades of Grey and believe me it's pretty tame really. Can't wait to get into the other two in the trilogy. Big W $9.96 each!

It was written by someone who writes fanfiction for Twilight... which to me is another two reasons NOT to waste my money!

 

By the way, there is a fantastic book shop on Norwood Parade with fantastic staff who really know their stuff - worth calling in if you're passing and asking for their recommendations. Give SHIVER by Maggie Stiefvater a try too - that's beautifully written.

I've read all of them to, JD Robb is an easy read (predictable though after the first one or two)

I'm really into Fantasy fiction, my favourites include Robert Jordan and David Eddings, but i dont mind Kate Forsyth, Robbin Hobb

How do you feel about the fantasy Genre? If you like quite dry witty stuff you can't go past Terry Pratchetts Discworld Series. It took my husband years to convince me I'd like it, but now something I constantly re-read, it's bloody good....and with about 30+ books so far it'll keep you going for quite a while.

Highly recommend Australian writer Peter Temple whose Jack Irish series may well appeal. You should be able to find these in the library.

 

If you're hankering for a bit of the old country ... try Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall (all about the machinations of Henry VIII's 'enforcer' Thomas Cromwell) which is huge but worth it as is the sequel

Try Peter James his books are excellent and a great read gets you hooked
