New Years in Adelaide.

Worrying

Used to be simple...something, somewhere with friends still in relative control of kids but now.....!

One is safe at a party with friends but the other is skipping from one group down Glenelg (scary in itself!) then up to town with another group. Noooooooooooooo!

Who said parenting got easier? When, hey?

Happy New Year to you all

 LC

PS. Hey, Snifter, FWIW, we used to take a picnic to Glenelg then stay away from the madness of Moseley Square. We could still see the firworks, hear the music etc but there were fewer people (!) and it seemed more family-friendly. Don't know what the tide will be like late evening, but sparklers on the beach (when it was warm) were fun! :wubclub:

We will be heading down to Brighton for the family fireworks which start at 9.00pm. We get there about 5.00 with an esky full of food and a couple of drinks, the kids play in the water till it gets dark and it's such a wonderful family atmosphere, this will be the third or fourth time for us I think. Mind you, not quite so much fun for me tonight as I've promised to be Des! ( as in designated driver!!)

We headed down to Normanville for the Pageant and fireworks. We arrived around 5ish on the beach and were in and out of the beautifully clear water, saw the parade come into the carpark by the cafe, had our picnic, waited till it got dark then came home around 10.30pm - no fireworks! Not sure what happened to them but we still had a lovely evening on the beach and were home in time to see the Sydney ones on TV (although why did ABC1 show them as if they were live for us?).

They are 'as' live so when in Adelaide you can get the countdown for midnight etc and open your bubbly to the Sydney fireworks.

Diane, yes we said hello. The cricket was superb for people of all ages, SACA did a great job, the show put on was good.

We went to see The Illusionists 2.0 at Her Majesty's Theatre, it was a great show, would recommend it. There was a guy from the UK called James More who apparently got to the finals on Britain's Got Talent in 2013 and Raymond Crowe who is originally from Adelaide who got to the finals on Australia's Got Talent. There were 7 performers in total, all different nationalities, with different skills! The trick that blew our mind was from The Futurist!

Later on we headed to Elder Park to see the fireworks.

The Glo Glenelg was lovely. Moseley Sq wasn't too bad earlier on, lots of families out for meals and stuff (although am sure later on it got busier and louder). We didn't head down till about 7pm but there was plenty of room on the beach and grass still. We had a wander on the beach, son splashed in the water for a bit before we headed back up to find a spot to sit and wait for the fireworks.

Display was good, son loved them. As soon as it was over we headed off down a side street then cut back into Jetty road a bit further down so we missed going back through Moseley Sq.

Was nice being warm on NYE. 32C down at the beach. I also liked it was a dry zone and police were stopping and confiscating people with alcohol (a bunch of older teenagers/early 20's passing by us got caught and had to hand it over).

All in all, a pleasant evening and handy that it was within easy walking distance. Am not sure I'd have done battle with public transport to get us there and back. Would have driven probably if we'd been coming in from further away.
