Who is going to an ANZAC Day ceremony tomorrow? Can anyone recommend one?

We are aiming to go to the one in the city, but might go to Brighton jetty instead - it's nearer!

We went to the Glenelg one.... very touching service! Second time been there...... nice to see the sunrise over the hills gradually and then over the square as the service goes on!

Our 12 year old daughter was taking part in the all night vigil at the Eternal Flame Memorial on Main South Road (Reynella) so went along to the 8.15pm service there last night but chose to go to the Dawn Service in McLaren Vale because we'd been told the numbers attending the Dawn Service at the Flame were likely to be very high.

 

It takes an effort getting the children up for it and wondering why you bother when we're not Australian nor from service families but then you remember that it's actually about being able to live in a democratic country and actually just about the freedom of choice we had to be able to migrate here at all - and then you realise why getting up at 5am isn't really too much of a hardship one day a year.

We went to the one at Tea Tree Gully, my four kids were part of the Scout Honour Guard. Lots of people there paying their respects and a very proud moment for us

What a magnificent response to the original question, flossybeth! I couldn't agree with you more. Although I didn't attend the dawn service in person to commemorate Anzac Day, I watched local and national tv coverage for most of the day and shed many a tear (wearing my poppy, as always) . However, I intend going to the Dawn Service in Adelaide in 2015, to mark the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli. Those dear departed, who fought and suffered so badly in that dreadful war, must never be forgotten. Lest we forget!

When I was young it was really just RSL people who attended the services and march. Now, most of them have passed but the numbers of attendees is growing each year. I think that says something about sense of community.
