Watched any good films recently???

He,he.................... I have the TV remote to myself and as much choice of films as I want with Mrs Tyke away visiting the rellies in the UK.

 

I love finding those "hidden Gems" and I did so last night.

 

I'd not heard of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" before but even just looking at the cast list I thought it worth a punt.

 

What a lovely and funny film, it does take some getting into but worth it.

Tonight it's going to be "Raging Bull" , I've just never gotten around to seeing this classic.

 

Working through my list of films I go back to and watch again.including..........

 

 

Leon - the Professional. - so poignant amidst the violence.

 

Inception. .............. are we still dreaming,great soundtrack.

 

The Illusionist.............. Love this period piece, awesome soundtrack by Phillip Glass

 

Koyaanisquatsi................ not you usual film, visually stunning, takes a few goes to really appreciate the beauty..and the soundtrack is incredible ( by Phillip Glass again)

 

 

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels........................comedy classic, never fails.

 

 

2001 A Space Oddity..................beautifully filmed.

 

 

The Shining..........................."Here's Johnny"............ one of the scariest movies ever, such atmosphere. At least I have two dogs to keep me company while watching it.

 

I'd love to hear more suggestions - especially those hidden gem / not mainstream movies.

I've heard people rave about the 'Grand Budapest Hotel' - must get round to watching it one day.

 

One of the funniest films I've seen recently is 'Four Lions'. The subject is pretty controversial and very topical, about a group of muslims from Yorkshire trying to be jihadists and training to blow up targets. I know it doen't sound like a comedy but it is really really funny, as they are pretty incompetant, but also very sad. A dark comedy.

 

I really enjoyed 'Silver Linings Playbook' - more of a chic flick but really good acting, plot, good performances from De Niro and Aussie Jacki Weaver. In a similar vein by the same director 'American Hustle' is also very entertaining if you can keep up with the plot!

Hubby and I saw Calvary at the cinema recently - quite dark humour and shocking ending but brilliant cast.

 

I loved Philomena as well - sobbed from about 10 minutes in.

 

And I can't go past Hot Fuzz! So funny!!

Went to see Lucy the other day - not quite what I was expecting, but I didn't fall asleep which is a recommendation of sorts....

 

It was less science fictiony than I thought it would be and more gun-porn than I expected! Plus an interesting style of cinematography.

Yes, there was one on the TV here a couple of weeks ago which we watched by mistake and it was one of the funniest films we have seen for a long time.

I think the original as the actors were English. Have you seen it? It was very funny.

Yes I went to see that one too the other day. (now that someone else has admitted it I thought I would too :-) ) Now I am feeling really brave..... I also went to see Guardians of the Galaxy. Ienjoyed that one....had a smile on my face as I walked out.

There are a couple coming up in the next month that I want to see - The Equalizer (Denzil Washington - how could it go wrong?), and The Maze Runner.

Oh no.....the pressure of a recommendation.......I really liked G of the G - science fiction fantasy that didn't take itself too seriously. I thought the movie "Lucy" started strong but kind of tapered out. The ending was really bizarre and I think that they could have done more with Morgan Freeman. I think with G of the G I will buy the DVD as I can see myself watching that again. Maze Runner is one I will watch also. I got a few scoopons a few weeks back where I got a few tickets for $10 so that was a bargain. I don't often look on those sites these days because I usually buy a voucher and don't use it but with cinema tickets it's alwayS a winner with me.

 

PS - I think Scoopon has cinema tickets at the Capri cinema for $8.00 if anyone is interested.

Try bad neighbors if you can get it. Seth Rogan and Zac Effron are in it. If you like Seth Rogan films then you will love this.

I love The Haunting, and although the remake was pretty good, nothing beats the build up of horror in the original '60s version.

 

Mental, Anchorman, Dodgeball, The Castle, Stepbrothers, The Other Guy, and pretty much anything with Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler, or Toni Collette.

 

Constantine is simply one of those films I can watch over and over - and not just because of Keanu Reeves lol!

 

I love watching films! They're like books, but not quite as good!

I don't often look on those sites these days because I usually buy a voucher and don't use it.

 

Thank goodness it's not just me then!

 

I see these wonderful offers, buy them...then nothing. I don't understand myself sometimes, but I now only buy vouchers that redeem themselves! You know, the ones where no further action on my part is required!
