Jet-Ski Requirements

Hi all,

 

I am looking to buy a jet-ski in the near future, but I am not sure of everything that is involved, apart from buying the jet ski, its upkeep and the relevant life-jackets etc...

 

After having Googled the SA Gov sites, I am still none the wiser. I gather their is rego required, but I cannot find out how much it costs. Does anyone know if I need a boat license? Can I only use it from a boat ramp? Is there anything else involved?

 

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Yep you do need a boat licence to use a jet ski.

Sorry clicked post too soon!......from what I remember it comes under a boat rego which is worked on length of boat. You don't have to use boat ramps for jet skis or boats.

are you planning on using it on river or sea?

When searching, you need to type ' personal watercraft' not jet ski.

The plan is to use it on both. But I gather that salt water is not too good for the working parts.
